***The Official Gran Turismo 5 Thread***

as usual the slower cars to start with are very mundane, but I love my RX7. so much fun with it, swinging it around corners and trying to catch the oversteer with the wheel, my arms are killing me!!!

Absolutely, oversteer is proper-hard to catch, exactly as it should be. Very well done in my opinion. I was about to turn the force feedback down, but didn't- it's more fun to deal with it by doing it properly!

Personally I'd have been happy with GT5Prologue but with more cars. As it is, I'm blown away by it.

too busy enjoying this great game

Was there any need for that? You are really enjoying it, that's great. You don't agree with me, that's great too. We all have different opinions after all. But if you have nothing useful to say why bother with the s****y replies. It was just a little on the trollish side imo.

@FooAtari thanks for taking the time to post your initial thoughts. I bought a PS3 specifically for GT5 but am a regular PC racer (not iRacing but LFS, rfactor, Simbin titles, F1 2010 etc). I'm just curious as to why you started on arcade mode - would it not make more sense to jump in at the "sim end" (if there is such a mode?) to make a fairer comparison to iRacing.

Well it's my understanding both modes have exactly the same physics? Someone correct me if I'm wrong here.

I thought the intention of the arcade mode was as a way to jump into a quick race or time trial with a variety of cars available from the slow to race-spec or have two player races.

So I used that to get a quick feel of what the game was like. Also aspects such as graphics and sound are going to be the same(ish, there are many inconsistencies in quality in these areas.) across the board,

However I have delved into the GT mode (or whatever the main aspect of the game is called) and so far my impressions remain the same after doing B-National Licence, the first B-Spec series race and Kart Special Event. Currently at level 5. I have read that damage and AI starts to improve from level 10 onwards, so that's what I'm looking for next.

I hope anyone doesn't take me impressions the wrong way. It is a decent racer with lots of content and many will find plenty to like about it and get their moneys worth. I am not trying to put anyone off buying the game. I just find the progression from GT4 to 5 a little underwhelming personally. But as I tried to stress before, this could well change as I spend more time with it and make progress.

Right..

Been driving about in the arcade mode.... gf looked over whilst I was watching a replay, even she said it looked real. She isn't really that into racing games, but now she's giving it a go...

Damn, seems to be doing ok so far in an Audi R8 lol got the wheel plugged in and its got such great handling....

If you've purchased a Ps3 for this, or thinking of getting one then don't let die hard racing fans put you off.. It is a decent game, just some niggles that after five years work you'd think were sorted..

The replays are simply amazing. The music is good as well, lots of different tracks, the incar sounds (apart from when you hit something) sound ok..

Monza is a great track in this game, so nicely detailed. I still can't get head tracking to work...

right, going to get the wheel back and play some more, try for some licenses...

Overall, shame about the screen tearing, bumper car IA and dodgy sound when you smack another car and iffy damage (its ok, I clouted the F40 into a wall and it did dent the car but no scratches ??) its a stunning game.... I think its a grower, the more you play the more you should get out of it....

Well ive been playing this for afew hours and i am bitterly disappointed

its a good game and i am enjoying it

but for being in development for so long because the developers are perfectionist the game has so many rough edges its so sad :(

the shadows are just awful i wish there was an option to turn them off id
rather look at no shadows that the crap it currently shows

:(

just ignore. your write up was very good. And as you're a PC racer you'll have a better idea then most on how a racing game should handle...

You made some good points, and I think if you play some more you'll find some mileage in the game (no pun intended)...

Actually whats all the talk about shadows? Is this because they flicker? It is a bit OTT in places but I don't think they're as poor as made out.. Unless I'm not seeing it..

Its the screen tear I notice more..

Hey, gf has got soul on display as the music, shes bopping along to it - lol haha off the track she goes.... Who says games don't bring couples together... ]

Err getting evil looks better go.. lol

I

Problem I see... GT5 is very late to the party. Forza 3 has been there done it, and GT5 ended up playing catch up. If it had been released 2 years previous, this would be a jaw dropped all conquering game..

but now, its in the wake of forza 3 and its barely able to keep up...

Still, got to give it more time and its by no means a poor game..

+1, spot on the money.
although karting is awesome fun! and i would love to see it in forza4

Guys just think. Had this game came out years ago, how bad would it have been?

There are some annoyances with this release like the shadows, the standard cars looking crappy and the screen tearing etc but can you imagine what it would have been like in 2008/2009? :p

Overall though I think it's a fantastic game as long as you don't crash! (my biggest pet peeve, crashing and facing the barrier all the time)

Argghhh...
I tried creating a room in the 'open lobby' section, it said 'connecting to server' with 'saving data' appearing every 30 seconds, after 10 mins I had to switch the PS3 off, the controller wasn't responding etc..

And it's wiped my progress... I'm a very unhappy camper..

:(

Oh no, my system did this too loading the online lobby.. i didnt bother to retsrt my ps3...but im hoping my licence progress and 5 wins havent been lost
