***The Official Gran Turismo 5 Thread***

Well I've put a few hours into the game now (lvl 12) and apart from the standard cars I love it. Handling is just nice with a wheel. I've got DFGT so can mess about with options on the go.

Head tracking I need to mess about with the settings.

Seems pretty much all the premium cars are new cars with one or two extras along the way. Karting is epic fun and with force feed back turned up feels pretty real. Will be giving all the licences ago tomorrow night I think. Anyone tried topgear intermediate challenge? It's a right pita.

Thank God for 24hour shops :) I can't believe I actually have the game that was the reason for getting a ps3 over 3 years ago.

The install process hasn't been that bad For me, the patch downloaded and installed in 3 mins and the install of the disk took exactly 30 mins. Just about to fire it up for the first time :) although I should probably be in bed, got work in 5 hours :(

I hope my copies here tomorrow! The screenshot thread just reminds me of how epic Wipeout HD was and that was the first PSN game I got just after I bought my PS3.

Damn I should play that more (never with Senture)

ps3ud0

Since mine failed to get delivered at 11am yesterday, I have to wait till later today to get it..because they didn't even have it at my usual sorting office (long story short).

Anyway, I was going to ask if anyone else has any issues with the G25/27 in GT5:P? When I'm going moderately fast in a straight line, the wheel starts spazzing out. It happens in rFactor too..
Haven't touched any settings, so was wondering if anyone else came across the same issue.

PS: 7 ish more hours till I go visit the Post Office again :D

DAm you all. OCUK send my copy yesterday after 5:30pm which means that royal snail will take the best part of 4 days to get me copy.Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Well, after a couple of hours my initial impressions are that the game is fantastic. I'd got a bit worried over some of the feedback I'd been reading but within about three corners of my first race I knew I was going to love this. For me it is all about how a racing game feels and this just feels right.

There is something about the physics, handling, controls on this game that manage to bring a smile to my face. The first race around London when I took a right hander with a raised curb and it flicked the car round on me just felt brilliant, it was like I could feel the weight transfer. Maybe nostalgia has a part to play as well, it's been years since I last played gt4 and so racing around some of the old courses is like seeing an old friend again. The sense of undulation and camber in the game has been done really well and I loved flinging a car around the deep forest track again.

Of course the game has issues, at times it looks fantastic, yet other times it can look distinctly ropey (the shadows in particular are poor). If screen tearing bothers you then it is noticeable in the game, but not as bad as I was fearing, infact I run my pc racing games with v-sync off which causes tearing because I prefer the more consistent framerate you tend to get, if GT5 has screen tearing in order to give the silky smooth framerate it has, then it is worth it IMHO, although it would have been better obviously if they could have got the same smoothness with v-sync enabled. Oh, and that same 'clunk' sound no matter how you hit something is annoying.

None of this matters to me though, they have got the most important thing right in that the game just feels great. My last race was and arcade blast around a track using the nascar's and it was superb. I see the gt games as a sandbox and this has not dissappointed me so far at all, the amount of options is staggering. If the multiplayer is any good (will try that tomorrow) then I'm gonna be in petrol head heaven.

I think my social life just went out the window because I can see me spending a lot of time with this. Fantastic game and really hasen't disappointed me at all.

Known issue, it's the equivalent of a tank slapper on a bike

It's apparently possible to tune this so called 'dead zone' out using software on a PC. Not sure about PS3/G27/GT5
as the post gimp decided not to deliver ANY mail to our part of the village yesterday so I'm still awaiting delivery.

Hey guys, I Went too tesco last nite too get gt5, First impressions are very good, Physics are good.. Can feel camber changes and bumps pretty well, Car feels much more attached too the road than in gt5p.. Graphics are nice standard cars have jaggies around wheel arches :( But that only shows at the start of a race :)

Looking forward too playing online probally tomorrow :) Add me too a friend on psn if you wish. jimem82

Starting to get really sceptical after reading a couple of posts here. The last GT game I played was GT3 on the PS2 which I loved, i'm actually scared this might be worse that that and a let down. Just spent £40 on Black Ops, does this game warrant another purchase?

A couple of big site reviews are in -

IGN - 8.5/10

Eurogamer - 9/10

By the sound of it, its quality game just picked to bits because of the long delays for release and the fact Sony did drop the ball in a few fairly small ways.

From the IGN review: http://uk.ps3.ign.com/articles/113/1136103p1.html
and A-Spec's races aren't helped by the return of the series' now trademark zombie A.I. Any tweaks that have been made are hard to decipher as by and large your fellow racers will pay little attention to your on-track maneuvers, often braking at inexplicable moments and turning what should be a high-octane contest into a comic bout of very expensive bumper cars.
Yet they still give it 8.5 out of 10, strange

Okay, before digging my PS3 out of the Dusty-confines of its loft prison where its been pretty much since launch, i wanted to check this out at a mates before buying, as its pretty much the only reason i got a PS3 in the first place ("Release title").

Anyway, dont flame me but im quite disappointed. It seems to offer nothing over Forza 3, really.

All in all, the biggest disappointment is it was in development for so damn long, and i cant really see why?

How long did you play for?

I probably put about 4 hours into it last night, the start of the game is as horrendous as ever with GT past, the early races you need no skill, you just pick a faster car and progress.

As I played the challenges, it got more interesting, the nascar challenge, the lotus top gear challenge had me pulling my hair out in frustration, but it was far better than driving around auto ring in a car that would blow away the opposition.

I think the single player game is flawed, and quite dull in general, online mode is where the main fun is going to be.

About 3 hours in total.
Might go give it another few today and see :)

Better put the PS3 back in the loft then? :) (PS what ever made you think GT5 was a launch title? Game wasn't even officially announced as GT5 until E3 2009...:o)
