whats the most serious illness/health problem you've had

Glandular fever - nothing compared to what some folks go through.

At the time it was bad though and two years later I am still pretty wrecked all the time.

Broken collerbone, broken right femur, dislocated knees, skin cancer, Rheumatoid Arthritis in the spine (had the spinal fusion op, didnt work) and strangely enough i suffer from depression and high blood pressure.:p Average reading is usually 195/110 give or take.:(

Bleeding heck, some very not nice things people have had here!

For me, not much really. Expecting mental problems when older to go with the expected RA!

Only had 1 confirmed broken bone - right thumb, this has left me with hypermobility and a very clicky thumb.
Have broken my big toe before (pics were posted here I think!), but this wasn't xrayed or anything as the docs aren't interested in broken toes.

Torn one of my muscles across my left wrist, this generally isnt a problem unless driving for a long time (hand on wheel) or when doing my weights. Needs surgery to re-attach.

Got scars from when I was a child - foam burns from when a muppet set alite a sofa and started swinging the foam cushions around, also one scar on right thigh that
was from an idiot putting glass between two metal panels on an old slide. Thankfully I went down feet first not head!

Nothing in comparison to a lot of you here!

Short term paralysis after I fell out of a tree

Finger crushed by yacht - long story. Worst pain was the injections inbetween my finger before they removes my fingernail so they could sort my finger out.

Multiple Sclerosis.
Good days and bad days.
Had to give up my license due to medication, thats been the worst part. You dont realise how you depend on the car for getting round.

Does indeed, made worse by people telling you to 'shrug it off' and 'get out there'....

I still believe I suffer from this, my problem is I tell myself to shrug it off, and I don't think it has worked in the slightest, just buried it deeper.

As for illness, shingles brought on by god knows what probably the above. No broken bones.

Had trouble with 3 discs (bulging/collapsing) pressing on my sciatic nerve, made my life an utter misery (being the generous type, i shared it with the wife), one microdiscectomy later and i was right as rain. Until scar tissue formed on the operation site and the pain came back. Been offered a second operation to fix it, but they've told me the odds of the "bad things" (paralysis, death, erectile disfunction, etc) were higher than before, i was **** scared the last time around so i'm sticking with the pain killers and being a grumpy git around the house.

Developed carpel & (according to the surgeon who examined me) cubital tunnel syndrome on both sides. Choice of putting up with weak grip and tingling or being opened up 4 times. And it didn't work out so well the last time they stuck the knife in me .... (it's like a toothache, ruddy nightmare for days on end, then the day you decide to get to the dentist the pain is gone and you can't work out what the bother was about, rinse and repeat)

Mix in depression and acid reflux for good measure.

Brief, but hideously unpleasant, was the winter stomach bug that I had the other week. I spent nearly all morning on the bog. From time to time I had to chunder as well, and after a while I got fed up of trying to turn round to throw up in the sink so I just did it on the floor in front of me.

That was a rubbish day.

Sounds like the noro-virus. I had that so bad I thought I was actually dieing. Errupting out of both ends constantly for 8 hours. Puking with such force it was splashing back up and hitting me in the face.

Don't think I've ever been so exhausted in my life.

Was at uni at the time. My flat mates shouted through the door
'Are you coming out tonight then!?'

Me: 'No!' *Fart, cough, gag, puke, sloooosh*

sig fail xrs, you need to change it mate, check the faq

yea, I had my ex telling me to 'man up' and get over it, like that's all you need to do
She was the cause of the depression in the first place

Broke my leg when I was younger and recently (last year or year before I forget now) had to have my Gallbladder out. :(

Got injured very badly in Iraq. several years of rehab and operations. Ok now though.

are you trying to set a record for the most understated post? 7 years rehab so I assume it was not a broken nail and a carpet burn....

I hope you are actually better now and I have every sympathy for your (I assume) painful injury and recovery....

Some prolonged bouts of depression in my late teens. Other than that luckily it is just physical injuries. A concussion once as a kid, tearing ligaments in my ankle, ankle and leg break I am in plaster for now.

Menieres Disease - been suffering from this for 10 years now and it just seems to get worse! You know the "bed spinning" feeling usually followed by chucking up when you're drunk? I get that when I'm sober. Had about 4 ear ops now which has left me with no hearing in one ear and several steroid injections in the ear but still suffer from it. I have good days & bad days but the bad days seem to be winning at the moment! Also suffered from depression due to this illness but surviving with lots of TLC from my wife :) At the end of the day though I know it's not terminal so I'm thankful for that.

Meningitis at the age of two, lost most of my hearing (now classed as profoundly deaf) although I got let off lightly considering people die from it...

Usual array of childhood illnesses, chickenpox, flu, blah blah.

severe anxiety that lasted for about 4 months.
had an-alcohol induced ectopic heartbeat that last for 4 days or so - in the midst of the anxiety stage. that was incredibly unfun

have severe anxiety too myself, lasted about 2 years so far, all my fault though as is drug/alcohol induced.
