upgrade advice needed 4870x2 to ?

OCZ modx ,

BF2 runs fine with 1280x800 at 60Hz, is only when I bought the GD245HQ and run it at 120Hz 1920x1080 it struggles.

Maybe its driver related. I just upgraded my 4870x2 which i had for 2 years nothing but problems. The new drivers didnt seem to work well with it.

Anyway, got a Q6600 and nice heatsink on the way. Hope that will show card is working fine.

would a 470 oc be good enough for 1920x1080 in 3d?

3d takes a performance hit, but should be fine yes. I've no idea how much the drivers for 3d have improved, last i checked 3d hit was pretty big (over a year ago though).

Check out some benchmarks, and then divide the FPS by 2 to get the FPS in 3D. 3D Halves your FPS pretty much in everything.

OMG, bought a second hand Q6600 and a Freezer 7 pro from OcUK and the fps now in BF at 80+ at max everything and 119 Hz

why I don't do the CPU upgrade earlier? I have been playing BF2 at 30 fps for 180 hours

The Q6600 is running at standard setting can't wait to see how it overclock!

duh!!!

Corsair CSSD-R60GB2 for Window7 64
Corsair CSSD-R60GB2 for programs

I think what I will do is sell these and buy the sandy controller SSD then raid 0

BTW when I mention BF2 I mean Bad Company in this thread

Glad to hear it, it's important to have balance in a system, as you will always be limited by the slowest part, so it's best to have a evenly matched CPU/GPU combo

I had a dual core clocked at 3.8 and BFBC was never completely smooth (decent but not pefect) as i mentioned earlier in the thread.
Quad Cores can see a fair bit of extra performance in more recent games, and this trend is set to accelerate IMO, if you can OC you CPU to 2.8 to 3.2 Ghz that should see you good for another 24 months of good quality gaming

raiding ssd's means no trim. have to maintain them yourself otherwise it slows a tonne over time.

glad to hear the q6600 solved everything :P

i had the same problem as you and i done the same thing as you changed it to q6600 when you oc it to 3.2 you'll notice another leap in fps i did :) as below

just recived my q6600 and @2.4ghz fps have jumped up on the farcry benchmark from 40 - 53 compared to my [email protected]

Edit just overlcoked it to 3.0ghz and fps are up to 65fps looking good

got it to 3.2ghz and its icreased again from 65 to 68 really having trouble with this chip as it is a very high vid off 1.325 any idea's idealy wanna get 3.6ghz looking at watercooling it and lapping it when the stuff arrives
