***The Official Gran Turismo 5 Thread***

Yeah but, why are patches getting release now

GT5 is PD/Sony's Star Child.

With this baby, the gestation period was long and arduous.

The birth was obviously difficult and probably induced either by PD or more likely Sony/shareholders
to get it out for the Xmas market so bits of it are "unfinished" or "unpolished" So what ? It's finally out !

The updates and patches can only add more finesse and depth to the game.

Personally, I'm happy GT5 IS here and I'm looking forward to the updates and patches (as long as I don't have to pay extra for them)

I feel sorry for the small percentage of gamers (emphasis on the first syllable) who are too short sighted to enjoy what they actually
have and choose to spend their time on fora wittering on about micro glitches, missing pixels and things they do not like. Pointless.

There's MUCH more to like than to dislike. 98% to like against 2% "could be better" but haters gonna hate

Finally got to play on the Nordschliefe, and it seemed a lot easier than the Forza equivalent. I could actually get round the Karusell without being spat out. This bodes well. ;)

Heh. I can get to the Karusell on the Nordschleife on Forza 3 with relative ease. Then I screw up the exit from there and spend the rest of the course fishtailing wildly trying to regain control. :D

Can someone write a guide on how to complete the Camper van Top Gear race? just in simple terms saying how many cars should be takeable (and be it inside or outside) on each corner. I get the feeling even if you win it will be quite tight, so would be good to know a turn by turn.

For instance, is it possible to takeover on the 1st turn, or am I wasting time/speed in trying this?

rp2000

Right, It's quite easy to win and isn't tight at the end lol.

Make sure you are always drafting someone and try to pass on the inside of corners. It's under braking you will overtake most. These guys are seriously early on the brakes and into the 2nd last corner they nearly stop! compared to what you have to actually do. Ignore the racing line braking points and brake later, Don't hit the back of anyone as this will kill your speed and try to keep it smooth and get onto the power early out of corners.

Let us know how you get on.

So let me get this straight:

- The game has bad tearing
- Damage has still not been included properly
- You can't upgrade the brakes, at all
- The standard cars look rubbish
- Shadow detail is awful
- Load times suck

And it took 5 years to create this master piece.

But no game in history has been as anticipated nor taken as long to make. Any niggles are going to seriously not be taken well, let alone some of the fundamental issues being talked about. I'm massively dissapointed to be honest.

OK after that I finished my 1st race and I was 3rd. Problem is I end up clipping some of the other vans (when overtaking on the inside, especially on Hammerhead) which loses a lot of speed and towards the end I am just too far away from the 1st 2 vans to catch up.

Right mate, I'm going to jump on now and see which way is best for hammer head.

You using wheel?

Nope, just standard pad.

If you just make a note of how many vans you overtake at which corners, that will give me enough info to work towards.

So what ? Who cares ? Why pollute fora with negative sentiments ?

- The game has bad tearing - So some people experience. Not everyone experiences that.
- Damage has still not been included properly - So what. Soon come as they say in JA.
- You can't upgrade the brakes, at all - At the moment - A serious flaw but not a game killer.
- The standard cars look rubbish - So what ? Who looks at the cars ? I'm too busy driving.
- Shadow detail is awful - Agreed, nothing which can't be fixed.
- Load times suck - They always have done. They may improve.

My glass is half full as is (I suspect) 98% of other GT5 owners who do not populate any fora.

I love GT though. That's the thing. Just was always going to be a dissapointment waiting this long. If this had come out in say 2008 like this it wouldn't be so bad.

I'm not "getting" this game yet -doesn't feel much of a game more of a technical masterpiece

that said some of the replays looks genuinely 99% photorealistic very impressive indeed

I lost count lol,

1st corner I'm 12th
2nd-3rd corner I'm 10th
after Hammer head I'm 8th
After 1st lap I'm 6th
After Hammer head the 2nd time I'm 1st.

Hammer head take the left turn and scrub speed in turn and keep right turn nice and tight taking them on the inside. Get your wheels straight as possible and on the power as soon as possible on exit. Don't be scared to bump them if needed lol.

I agree, but I'm not going to let any of that spoil what I have :)

I'll wait and see what's released in the updates over the next 6 months before making any final judgements.

Some peope are behaving like Kevin the teenager :D

thing is, im a huge GT fan.

problem as i see it... too much time spent on needless thingy.

go karts... sure its NICE.. is it a core part of GT gameplay? would i have cared if it hadnt been included or was DLC later? no. do i care that the home screen which i constantly use unless im in a race is tosh and that navigating menus is painfully slow? yes. get the basics right, then tweedle dee everything else.

sony forced them to release it now because PD could have gone on forever mincing around with the game and it would fundamentally have been no better experience, just more needless things....like the car delivery zone thing...i mean seriously. WHY??

and dont get me started on licences.

given how long it takes to load a track, why not scale thigns down a biut

howabout all C tests are done on 1 circuit a basic ring or somehting and all B class tests are done on a more complex circuit... instead of having to load 10 different circuits to complete 1 license?! i mean jesus just make it easy to do things not time consuming and lots of black screen loading/installing.

Grrrr. I am getting close, but as I enter "Bacharch" (just before Gambon) I always smack a van in the back and get DQd. At that point I am 5th so I know I can do this, I just need to practice. Your advice has helped though, I just need to outbrake them and stay in the slipstream (I didn't think slipstream helped much on this track, but watching the speedo it does).

Theres some real dung being talked in this thread, its a bit sad.

If you don't like the game why don't you go play some of the other "better" racers you keep talking about...

Also I think people where expecting a racing game revolution with GT5, thats not what you get. GT1 was a racing game revolution.

GT5 is Gran Turismo. Thats what they made and thats what you get.
