The *Official* Eve Online Thread

Honestly, if you find it hard to work out what a certain amount of dollars or euros is equivalent to in GBP, I wouldn't bother with Eve.

bit harsh

At current it's 14.95 euro, given the current exchange rate of 1:1.8 it works out to around £12.65 a month which is expensive for mmo subscriptions wise, however all expansions are free, so cost goes towards that and development.

I played eve years ago when it first came out for a year, and then I quit and came back to it like 5 times, but prob the total ammount of gametime I put in was prob only like a year or sommat, I think I had 3 million skillpoints.

I got a question coz I was thinking of trying the trial account again, coz its free so doesnt hurt...but ya know for end game? what can you do in eve?

Like in wow you could raid, but I quit wow and I'll never play that game again coz it bored me and plus without a guild the game sucks imo.

So what about eve, I dont think I ever did end game stuff, like you start the game, you get a ship, follow a tutorial, do some missions, level up, and then what do you do?

Thanks in advance.

Eve doesn't have an End game as such. You train up to the point where you know how to do things, find something you enjoy doing, and carry on doing it for the enjoyment.

It's not a game designed for those who play games in order to complete them or gain achievements. You play it because you enjoy doing so :)

Personally I play because I like getting new things and having the risk of flying things that have a genuine cost attached to them which I could lose in an instant. This is all the better in PvP :) Feels like the rush I get playing a big hand in Poker when you just don't quite know what your opponent has and it becomes all in :)

Do you know if eve has a system like wow where after you've stopped playing for so long it will give you a trial again? Like could I login to an old account and activate it for 14 days for free?

They'll send out mails saying you can come back and get a few days free every now and then. Not sure how long it is though, 5 days I think?

I'd actually disagree with that quite strongly. In WoW you get achievement points, or a certain vanity item as a reward perhaps, but they are all for fairly empty achievements (besides arguably some of the harder raiding achievements). In EVE you set your own personal goals, and work towards achieving them - It is much more satisfying. You might set a goal of making a certain amount of ISK, or to get a certain ship/item.. Or even to cripple an alliance, take over a solar system and pillage its planets/moons. They are real achievements, that you get real rewards for - Not 'Kill X Orcs' for some arbitrary number of points.

Yeh you're right. To clarify with my post I was referring more to game set challenges, rather than personal ones. What I meant was there is no "you have completed the game" trailer, or xbox live achievements - that sort of thing.

I've not set out any major targets for myself yet beyond managing to be a much stronger pvp player ;)

As a newbie thats just doing the trial again, do you go from frigate to cruiser to battleship, or is there any other ships to get inbetween? I've gone caldari btw. Like I said before I played this game when it came out at day 1 for like a year, but that was so long ago now and they got like so many new ships in the game so is that the route I take it?

Also how long has even been out now? feels like about 10 years to me?

I guess you can include destroyers and battlecruisers in that progression. Although destroyers aren't particularly great at the moment, battlecruisers are great ships though. Great stepping stones between cruisers and battleships, tankier, more firepower etc.

Eve came out Spring 2003, amazing to think people have been playing it that long lol

Because new players have a choice:

1) train skills that improve their character not fly better ships
2) train ship skills slightly slower then realise that they are at a disadvantage to someone who trained learning skills

CCP discovered it was a massive barrier to entry.

Learning skills were utterly pointless for a long time anyhow as you'd either have players who googled the most optimal setup anyway or players who suffered a degraded gaming experience and likely stopped playing.

May 15th
created my first char (VeNT) on 17th, (my birthday) having played the beta for a year beforehand

How many expansions has there been, and has there just been a new expansion recently?

Also the updates you guys are taking about with getting rid of the skills, when does all that happen? In a new expansion or just a regular update in a few weeks?
