After several years of wanting a MacBook I got myself a MacBook pro today and was initially really impressed but quickly waned when I started using it. Nothing seems to work easily and am feeling like I wished I'd just got a decent windows 7 laptop. Is this a normal experience and does it get better?

You don't really say what the problem is.

I have had no issues what so ever getting used to OS X...there must be something that your struggling with.

Though there is a learning curve as you get used to the layout etc. :)

im sure i will. just lots of silly different things really. ive used windows since 95 was released, so i suppose im just used to windows way of doing stuff.

just generally trying to get my head round things.

one thing that im finding annoying is safari. on my old laptop i used firefox and used to have several home pages where when i opened firefox it opened all the web sites i use on a daily basis but i cant seem to find a way for safari to do the same.

After using a mac mini and a macbook, I also felt the same. Switched back to using xp, vista and 7. Sometimes it doesn't just 'click'

Download Firefox then?

Loads of people use Firefox for the Mac. :)

Or... get in to the habit of trying an app and exploring its preferences before taking advice to install something else :p

Sums up my experience of mac usage. It feels like they are being different for the sake of being different rather than being logical and user friendly. I can't stand them.

I found the opposite to be honest. I've grown up using windows in just about every in carnation from 2.1... It's a cheesy tag line, but OS X - does just work. Once you get used to using the mouse and keyboard a little differently, you'll be fine. As EVH says - give it a couple of weeks before making your decision!

there is the option of firefox but wanted to get used to safari if possible.

dont , its rubbish in comparison to firefox and chrome. i only went to chrome for early html5 youtube support but ended up sticking with it. is impressing me most recently with its translation feature. love it

ive had my macbook a few years and still dont get what the OSX hype is about. to me its just an OS , i can see how its better than xp (as it should be being far newer) but i dont really see it as better/worse than 7 (which i have to use a lot at uni) i will buy a mac again though because i like the hardware and need it for certain software/things .

Macs are all about the hype, in reality they do very little better than Windows (especially Windows 7) and things are a pain to use on them for the vast majority of people.

I like OS X over Windows because the OS and third party apps are generally more tastefully put together, and because it's easier to experiment with different development environments on.

Robbo, please grant me your esteemed blessing lest I be just a hyped up bozo.
