thought these next gen drives were out for this time of year?

I'm holding out for these as my first SSD drive as larger capacities at lower prices were promised!

I wanted santa to make (manually) an SSD for xmas:D

should I (santa) get a £99 C300 64GB then or the intel X25 is looking nice 80GB £150... how big is win 7 ultimate install again?

OR should I wait and do a combined sandybridge uber build...hmmm...

I remember reading that the prices will move down a node.

- 40GB and 80GB Value drives, 80GB to be around the price of the current 40GB. The new 40GB will be cheaper.
- 160, 300, and 600GB Mainstream drives. The 160GB will be around the price of the current 80GB, the 300GB around the price of the current 160GB and the 600GB to be way off above that.

ETA: Q1 2011.

All great stuff to hear. Looking forward to SSDs below £1 per GB. :)

C300 is very tempting at the price, worried though of the 'stress' of having to keep it empty after the OS is installed.

The intel at 80GB has that little more headroom.

What has emerged the best drive for OS use only, i.e. fastest boot times and program launching?
I doubt I will put any games on the SSD...star craft 2 at a push

G3 seems like it is no faster.
eventually will be cheaper £'s per GB
will blatantly have early adopter/price gouger fee so savings may not be manifest for 4 months from now...

I think what others have said is true, there is a great leap going from any mechanical hardrive to any SSD, however going from a current gen SSD to even a next gen SSD, in general use you won't notice this difference.

In the real world it seems there is no noticeable difference between intel and C300, I think that as attractive as C300 is, 80GB from intel is just more comfortable...

still thinking though, meant to be holding out for a new monitor lol...

edit: so this 120gb is really new from reading around. trying to pin down availability is tricky though

PS: is the useable size of an SSD similar to mechanicals in that you lose a chunk of capacity due to formatting? or is it less?
