BMW to unleash 350bhp M1...

Only 80kg less than an M3 :(

A fair bit cheaper though. It's still going to be a bit of a handful in the wet methinks.

Not the first attempt at a super quick baby beemer though: Hartge H1 V8 5.0

Seems a shame they and Audi are releasing these at the end of their life cycle. Isn't the new shape 1 going to be on sale at the same time? I'm sure it will be a very special car regardless, BMW need it to be after the X5/6M:(

Audi's new A1 Quattro?

It looks pretty sweet too, in the cool kind of way.

Guys, lets wait 'til it's really released before we comment too much.

M power cars are more that the paper figures. Ie, someone commented here that it's only 0.2 secds quicker to 60 than another car (135i?). However, once on the move you may find it's much quicker, 0-60 times don't mean much. Besides, this article is rather old and I don't think the official performance figures have been released yet

Regarding getting a cheap 135 and chipping it (as someone suggests), will the internals take it reliably? You see the thing about M cas is that they're well developed as a complete package, and to apply the power reliably.

I have no doubt it will be a very good car as all M powered cars are. Pity it's turbo charged though but hey ho, M cars have to move with the modern times.

With other non-M BMW's you can invest money trying to make them into an M car but by the time you do that it would have been cheaper to buy an M to start with :)

It's the same basic engine as the 135i and many people succesfully remap the N54 engines to 360ish bhp. Infact most of the N54's dyno at circa 320ish bhp anyway, the power output figure is very conservative. The newer N55 is spot on, mind.

As for reliability, probably not but then the 135i and 335i won't even output stock power reliably as they are far from reliable engines, and I doubt the M1 will be any different!

And in true BMW style, you'll add the extra's you want, and it suddenly becomes almost 50k.

Hahah what a joke. 1500KG.

Why has TW Fox become Corsa Fox? Perhaps I missed that thread. I assume it's still him anyway, based on the post count and content.

And the Civic Mugen RR weighs 1255kg has no torque and has a Honda badge on the front while costing a small fortune...

Whats your point?

Pretty poor comparison however.

Is the 'M1' a limited run vehicle? Regardless of the Mugen Civic's perceived value (I do not think it represents any kind of value, fyi) there are differences.

He has seen how wrong he has been, and now says these cars are the future, especially in 1.0l form...
