Apprently I'm a "muslim loving ****"

Surely it can't have anything to do with politics, culture and interpretation.

This is what religion (any major one) is all about in today's world. more the bold part where it's been interpreted incorrectly (usually on purpose) and then spoon fed to the stupid who then end up showing their stupidity to the world.

Seems the stupid within ocuk forums have made themselves known too :p

"Fight in the cause of Allah those who fight you, but do not transgress limits; for Allah loveth not transgressors. And slay them wherever ye catch them, and turn them out from where they have Turned you out; for tumult and oppression are worse than slaughter; but fight them not at the Sacred Mosque, unless they first fight you there; but if they fight you, slay them. Such is the reward of those who suppress faith. But if they cease, Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful. And fight them on until there is no more Tumult or oppression, and there prevail justice and faith in Allah; but if they cease, Let there be no hostility except to those who practice oppression."

"Those who believed, and adopted exile, and fought for the Faith, with their property and their persons, in the cause of Allah, as well as those who gave them asylum and aid,- these are all friends and protectors, one of another. As to those who believed but came not into exile, ye owe no duty of protection to them until they come into exile; but if they seek your aid in religion, it is your duty to help them, except against a people with whom ye have a treaty of mutual alliance. And remember Allah seeth all that ye do. The Unbelievers are protectors, one of another: Unless ye do this, protect each other, there would be tumult and oppression on earth, and great mischief." (Surah 8:72-73)

Whose translation? I ask because a) it doesn't seem to support your own argument, and b) it's a little "sexed-up" compared to this version:

8:72 Those that have embraced the faith and fled their homes,
and fought for the cause of Allah with their wealth and their
persons; and those that sheltered them and helped them,
shall be friends to each other.
Those that have embraced the faith but have not fled
their homes shall in no way become your friends until they
too leave their city. But if they seek your help in the cause
of your religion, it is your duty to aid them, except against
a people you have a treaty with. Allah is cognizant of all
your actions.

8:73 The unbelievers give aid to one another. If you do not
do the same, there will be persecution in the land and great
corruption.

Those that have embraced the faith and fled their homes
and fought for the cause of Allah, and those that have
sheltered them and helped them - they are the true believ-
ers. They shall receive mercy and a generous provision.

(Apologies for typos, it was OCR'd) That is the Penguin version, translated by N A Dawood. Note the repeated references to those who help Muslims in exile, even if they are not believers.

I'm hoping a squadie on here can restore my faith in the army and prove they are not all like this small minded idiot.

Why? It's not his role to defend the armed forces any more than it's any muslim's role to persuade you it's a peaceful faith.

They are all individuals, don't you see the irony in making assumptions of a massive group of people based on one encounter?

Fair enough point, I shouldn't be so quick to judge. Not going to defend myself there.

Just so shocked that people really do think like that and I would have thought part of being in the army would be education about those you are fighting.

Could you give us your interpretation of this then?

I have to admit it is not my interpretation. I simply copy pasta'd from This Site

It may be a flawed interpretation for all I know. But that's just my point, people interpret things in different ways, and terrorists use these texts to justify their actions. Better off doing away with organised religion entirely IMHO.

The Qur'an tells muslims to exile themselves in countries that do not believe and to stir up trouble. The Qur'an tells muslims to fight and kill non-believers.

Your interpretation of that passage is worryingly skewed.

OP - don't bother arguing on that "epic fail of humanity", as you put it :) Someone at my work even used the phrase "social network" once, when referring to real-life friends

So last night after a few shandies I was browsing that epic fail of humanity known as Facebook and foolish replied to a chain status update about a girl being arrested for burning the Koran. I basically said there must be more to this and inciting racial hatred is a crime.

How does burning the Koran incite racial hatred? Islam is not a race.

What sort of an idiot signs up to the armed forces anyway?

"1 death please"

Forget that, i'm not for rent to God nor Government.

I know plenty of Muslims. None of them has ever tried to blow me up. Religion is all down to how you interpret it. It's only the nutters in any faith who take everything in their holy book literally and do stupid things.

this constant Gd has X gd'rs are Y is starting to **** me off tbh, especially as it's usually the idiots that clutter the forum up saying it.

RTM em or just **** off with your whining.

LOL The pot calling the kettle black. ;)

A mate copied and pasted that message into his facebook status yesterday as well. Something along the lines of "HOW COME ITS OK FOR A MUSLIM TO BURN TEH BIBLE BUT WEN SOMEONE BURNZ TEH KORAN DEY'R ARRESTED?!"

Really does make me despair sometimes. People are dumb :(.
