GT5 - how you rate it?

AI is goddam awful, the way they completely ignore your presence is maddening, especially when combined with the crappy physics when the game reacts like they weigh ten tons and you are on a bicycle if you collide.

UI is overpacked and muddled, tons of pointless screens that could have been optimised out and excessive number of options presented at once.

2.5 for me, racing is good but not much fun, AI is terrible and visually it looks dated in places. too sterile and no where nearly as enjoyable as Forza 3.

F3 has been out for over a year, PD maybe should have had a look at its presentation and menu system. overall still seems way short of a finnished product.

very, very disapointed and could well see F4 overtaking GT as the premier console racing sim. Turn10 must be p***ing themselves laughing right now.

I cant comment fully on the game until i finish it and get to at least level 40 as i assume most people must have done to go through all the events and judge the AI/damage at later levels.
The only thing i can comment on is the actual driving itself, and that i feel is better than any other console racer so far, especially when using a wheel.
gd luck getting to 40 :o
all this ai/damage at 'later levels' trust me it doesnt get any better - its dog **** throughout/

Honestly guys. As a simulation, it's not right.

most certaintly.

4.5 - My opinions totally changed since my first go. Not seen anything wrong with the graphics (aside from maybe some of the tracks from prologue that look like they've been just copied and not made nicer) and am having a lot of fun. Missing out on a wheel though which is what made forza for me, maybe one day. It's a good driving game imo and it has NASCAR licences which is where the extra .5 came from - oh how I miss NASCAR games..

personally loving it, only real complaint is the shadows, doesnt bother me too much unless im using the interior view but so ive stopped using it due to this.

big plus that they have made the licences almost impossible to fail on bronze which is good, AI can be bad but isnt as bad as people are saying imo.

Rating:
4.5 - 5 with a wheel
3.5 - 4 without one

ive dug my wheel out the loft, its only a PS3 compatible logitech driving force ex so nothing spectacular i.e. £100+ G25/G27 (i would love them i just cant afford them)

its not recived the glorious reception i think they hoped but its definatly the racer the PS3 has been missing (so much so i was tempted with the 4gb 360 + Forza 3 a few weeks ago when it got delayed from the 5th)

personally i think before xmas one big patch will fix this and make it a top game of this generation but it should not of required this and this seems to be the way a lot of games are becoming (and its getting far too regular that the early adopters get used as a beta tester then patch a few weeks later.... looking at you COD:BO, especially online)

better than some parts of Forza, worse in others but I would still give both 4/5

Hate the constant loading (and wtf is with saving just after you started the game up in the first few screens before starting a race) - and the menus arent great

(should have shortcut from individual race menu to parts shop - rather than 3 different menus to get there first)

Mainly the graphics look fabulous - shadows are terrible though, even if my 30" Dell is making them worse)

AI / Punishments isnt great either (being dq'd for being barged into is ****)

Still a brilliant game and hopefully only to get better with time

I'd give it a 4 at the moment but I reserve the right to change that if the future patches iron out the worst of the bugs.

By the way, I don't know if this is meantioned earlier in the thread but to those that are moaning about the music you can set your own music to play during the races instead.

My main gripe with the music is that it's too quiet on default settings but thankfully you can also adjust the volume of the sfx and menu sounds to compensate.

Up until yesterday, I didn't have much of an issue with the AI, but now, I'd have to agree.

The AI ramming into you seems to get worse when your start getting more powerful cars. I had to turn it off last night in sheer frustration when 5 attempts at one race resulted in me being continually shunted off the track. The AI cars either don't know you're there, or have the inability to brake before reaching you.

at first i didnt like it at all, but now ive got in to it and im getting better cars all the time then id give it a 5, i dont think much of the multiplayer though.

It's inconsistent and often unfair.

You can give someone a good shunt up the arse and get away with it but brush across their side and you'll you get disqualified. Tap certain walls and get DQ, wallop others and be allowed continue. By far and away the most annoying aspect for me is when the AI turns into you and get you DQ, sometimes it's your fault but often your doing little more than driving in a straight line and they'll move across into you.

I'd have given it a 1 initially, it's very disappointing, little better in many respects than the 4 year old prologue and far too many irritating aspects. But having 'persisted' with it to the point where i have some decent cars i am now enjoying the driving (wouldn't call it racing).

In summary i'd say it's a great driving game, but very flawed.

3/5

3, sad to say about average.

Not played a GT game since 3 which I put literally hundreds of hours into I loved it that much. Was hoping GT5 was going to be exactly but with updated visuals but it just isn't. Can't put my finger on it but i'm not enjoying it as much as I thought I would.

3/5 from me...

The inconsistent graphics, iffy menus, dodgy sounds and loading times I could just about forgive and forget but the shockingly bad AI and the bass drum collisions and perennial 'on rails' GT tracks I just can't.

It really does make me shake my head at times thinking about how a game this long in development has such fundamental flaws?? I also thought Forza 3 was a bit too sterile and not enough 'fun' and GT has these moments as well. Finding the right balance with any given car and race is key to actually having a competitive fun race and IMO the devs should have made this easier to achieve as too often your car is either too slow to compete or you can mod it to the hilt, overtake everything on the first 2 corners and then drive it like a time trial for the remainder of the 'race' and that's just dull.

Such a shame..and all too often a bit of a chore :(

4.

It isn't perfect but nothing is.

Still several levels above all other driving games.

I would've liked to see some things that were in Forza 2 be put into this, engine swaps would've been nice, the ability to customize every gear instead of just the top speed would've been good too, and a livery creator but I guess I can let the final one slide. Nobody can deny that GT doesn't have as many tuning or upgrade options as FM, but both are still excellent games in their own right. It's hard to say what would happen if both were available on both platforms, but I don't think either of them are levels above each other.

I'm now pretty far into the game with not that many races left (although I think I have to yet unlock endurance?) and I'm Level 23.

2 things that are really bugging me are...

I haven't yet "unlocked" damage - does this actually exist and when do you get it?

I've yet to be in a "race". In pretty much every event I've led into the first corner and strolled away with it. Probably the only event this happened in was the Indy Like the Wind race, which was by 3-4 seconds.

I've still enjoyed it, but there's nothing in this that has made me think it's better than Forza 3.
