Hi,

I am creating my own product line of olympic plates / bars / kettlebells and i was wondering if i could get some feedback from fellow equipment users on their preferences etc. Where do you currently buy them from, are you looking for anything in particular (e.g shape of disc, handles, iron/rubber) etc.

Any responses would be appreciated.

Thanks

Price!
Could not give a rats on what the plates shape/texture or whatever is. IF I had to choose I prefer the rubber round plates with colour :D

Price. Anything more than £1.30 per kg (for plates) is too much, delivery needs to be cheap also.

When it comes to home equipment - price is all that matters tbh.

I quite like the plates that have a hole in so you can hold onto them rather than pinching two 25 kg plates across the room, but if I was looking for a home setup, I'd be more concerned with cost and that the things wouldn't break if I dropped them.

If you dont mind me asking where do you buy them from at £1.30?

Thanks for your reply.

I would have thought that generally for home use rubber would be preferred for obvious reasons, does that not matter to you guys?

No probs. I generally post good deals when I see them, that link was posted not long ago :)

Matting is cheap, means that iron can be purchased :)

Yup I went for cast iron and then just brought some matting.

Really wanted the olympic coloured rubber ones but just couldnt justify the cost when I got around 235KG of plates for the same price as 160KG of coloured rubber ones.

Round, durable & reasonably priced.

As for Kettlebells I know that the handle needs to be large enough to fit your fist through so that when directly above your head the KB can rest on your forearm. A decent thickness grip is good too, nothing too thin.

Thanks for that link Morba, must have missed that when you posted it before. Ive been looking for some cheap olympic 1.25kg weights for a while and those 0.5kg ones seem pretty cool too.

Might just get those :D

Edit: £9 P&P for a tiny 3.5kg package, doesnt that seem very high?

Yeah i guess if you were after 2 or 4 of those 20kg plates for £20 which is amazing, you'd probably still have a great deal after the postage. I wonder what they would charge you for an 80kg package lol.

Well its £30, see that just seems strange compared to the ratio of weight and price :D

Ill see what Santa bring for Christmas :D

Ah I see, that's why you need the thick handles as you don't have your own ;)

I need them to help fight the forearm fatigue I get from it :p

On the topic of thick handles I've been using my FatGripz recently for static holds. So much thumb work it's ridiculous! There was an axle bar with tyres on it at a gym I visited recently. 60-80KG on a 2.5" bar is tough work let alone some serious weight on a 3" bar!
