Why do bikers..

Choosing to express it numerically was probably a bad idea, as I admitted further up, as I'm reality it's impossible to put a number on so apologies for that clouding matters.

But I will stand by the fact that in my experiences, on the roads down here, the proportion of dangerous road users on bikes is largely disproportionate to the quantity of them on the road. Its almost entirely down to my location - come down here for a few weeks in the summer and you'll see my point

Yeah some places do seem to be *&^% head magnets... and I do admit that a lot of bikers are purely using the bike as a machine for kicks which doesn't help.

Still a small % though I would guess in general, most of us this time of year are to busy freezing nuts off in this weather to even consider any kind of crazy riding, open throttle, wheel just spins

I'm sorry if I come across a total *&&^, just passionate about biking in the extreme, at the same time tend to wind people up wrong way on internet, partly by accident but banter is good fun :D

Just remember I'm not trying to tar everyone with the same brush. I'm going to do my best to count how many bikes I actually see today, just to show how hot and cold it is around here....

Those arent statistics, they are figures i made up to illustrate a point:

That regular bike riders tend to ride more sensibly than the weekend warriors with a death wish and a sports bike

wouldn't you agree ? :)

I know what you were doing, I was just being facetious. :)

I agree that the less skilled/regular bikers can cause more issues than seasoned ones - however, irrespective of whether they are right or wrong, bikes are far more vulnerable so I tend to let them behave like pillocks - though similarly to Will Gill - if someone filters or tonks down a road dangerously if I have the opportunity, I will wave my hand to tell him to slow it down. Sometimes they pull up to have words and I just tell them straight, most of them seem to give me the "fair enough" treatment, some do, however, think "whatever" and carry on.

The only incidents I've ever had in 13 years of driving was when on my bike - a car pulling out in front of me to pull onto the oncoming road way when the oncoming road was blocked - so he ended up just blocking the road, whilst pulling out 5m in front of me, needless to say I didn't stand much of a chance (and I wasn't speeding). 100% no fault claim, but bike was Cat C'ed :( Other situation, I filtered past gently, then 1/2 a mile later I indicate "left" and start to pull into a side street and a car who took exception to me came in on the INSIDE of my bike whilst I was turning left - knocked me off my bike. He could have killed me. Amazingly he stopped when he realised what he had done - started begging me not to call the police and whipped out £100 and pleaded with me. I gave him the biggest dressing down I think I have ever given anyone in my life - I was livid, scared, but also close to having murderous intent and owing to my less than diminutive state I think he changed his mind on being arsey with me. I told him, begged him, and preached to him, NEVER to behave like that with a biker again. I took his £100, didn't call the police. The damage was just an indicator and a scratch to the fairing fortunately. I know I should have called the police for his protection and my satisfaction, but there you go.

Like Flukester, I've been nearly knocked off on so many occaisions with people looking but not seeing - and it really spoils the pleasure of riding. People get a bee in their bonnet about ALL Bikers, rather than remember that we are more vulnerable, and just to shrug it off, some decide to really make a song and dance about proving a point - frankly that's dangerous.

Now don't get me wrong, I don't think this should give carte blanche to all bikers to behave like muppets, and certainly the ones who do take silly risks, and filter too quickly, and weave in and out too fast do deserve the lambasting they get - however, the ones who do filter and do accelerate quickly don't necessarily do so in a dangerous manner. Bikes accelerate fast, that's why we love 'em, they exhilerating, take a bit of skill to handle, and offer a lot of fun for little money. Just like any petrolhead that loves a fast sporty car, who likes to open it up a little - just appreciate bikes like to do it to. I'm sure that often it's more out of shock / fear or lack of understanding that people react so badly to bikes because a lot just don't notice them and don't appreciate how fast they are.

In essence, irrepsective of what you ride/drive there will be morons who think they own the road. Then there's the majority of us who know that we don't but enjoy a bit of spirited riding/driving.

Well, wasn't out much on the roads, just a 10 minute drive through rush hour traffic at both ends if the day.

On the way to work, I saw 3 bikers and countless cars - hundreds? Probably more cars on the way home and 2 bikes.

Didn't spot anything daft on the way home, but on the way in, one if the bikers pulled out from behind a van to try and filter on a road that was too narrow, meaning he had to pull back in suddenly when he saw me coming. A young girl in a corsa went straight through a red pedestrian crossing - nothing else of interest stood out. So that was 20% of bikes I saw doing something a bit silly and a small percentage of cars.

I imagine most of the bikers are now back in their cars due to the current temperature and snowy/icy conditions

You imagine wrong sir!
Perfect for riding a bike, seemed to me that the majority of buffoons and post lobotomy road users(cars and bikes) werent out today. Less traffic meant I could ride on the snow easily and had to only deal with slush on the visor and a wet roads once into the city itself.

I want a bike just i can filter. If i see them comming i give them as much room as possible.

If i am on a single carriage-way again i move over 50% say thanks) and give them as much room as possible. Its not like they slow you down, they are going to overtake you, the car in front of you etc......

If we are going to bitch about bikers going between the trucks. Should we also be asking are the truckers being spolit brats and overtaking because on this spot of the road his truck 0.0000001 mph faster and given 100 miles he might actually complete the overtake.

Well from my general observation I've seen less bikes than normal so maybe they're not all as hardcore as you guys ? :p

Sorry m8, I was being sarcastic/cheeky. :D

My Mille has been hibernating for weeks now. Where I am just now you can barely get your car out your drive for snow although bizzarely I'm still riding - only on an MTB though. ;)
