Freezer 7 Rev2 not happy with temps

So the fan died on my old akasa 968x4 cooler so i purchased a freezer 7 rev2.

The baseplate was easy to fit but the cooler itself was a pain as it interferes with the chpset cooling on my p5q deluxe. After a bit of effort and breaking the fan housing :mad: its fitted.

However its idling in the 40s and sometimes hits the 50s. Is this too high> I dont want to overtighten the thing incase i damage my cpu
 
thats pretty high, mine cools my amd quad idles around 25 and peaks at 50 under prime
amd athlon II X4 635 @ 3.33Ghz

i'd buy a better cooler, how much voltage is running through your Q6600?
 
3.6GHz is a fair ol' clock on air... What volts you pushing? The Freezer does punch well above its weight, but it is a budget cooler.
 
Those temps are very good compared to the 70c I was getting with the Freezer Pro @ 3.4Ghz

Put in a Prolimatech Super Mega Cooler & now maxing at 62c @ 3.6Ghz 1.5v vcore
 
1.35v, but ive tried it back at stock with stock volts and temps dont seem to change a lot. Ive just reseated it and temps have dropped by a few degrees.
 
hmmmm, can you post a picture of how it's arranged, how it interferes with the mobo's cooling and where the fans broken and such, also are you using mx-5? :p
 
Temps arent bad, most i could reach on my old q6600 with the freezer was 3.4ghz, (1.2750 vid, loaded at 71c iirc). To get it to fit on the P5Q deluxe, i had to bend the bottom 3 fins downward and sandpaper the corners of the fan housing. Replaced it with a TRUE black and clocked the cpu to 3.8ghz.

My freezer with current ambient temps being low is keeping my i5@4ghz at around 30 degrees idle and 65 prime loaded ;) Push pull fans is where its at on this budget cooler :)

So nothing to worry about then? I was a bit worried that the cooler wasnt making proper contact with the CPU but its tightened as much as it will go.

I said in the another thread that ive got a Tuniq tower 120 but i cant use it as its right up touching the PSU in my coolermaster 335
 
Mine keeps the Phenom II x4 965 at 29-30 degrees idle, haven't tried overclocking yet but it seems okay so far.

In a CM430 case, and so it's mounted directly below an exhaust fan in the roof - bonus push/pull action, lol.

Was a bee-hatch to fit though, the HS was too big to allow RAM in slot 1. Luckily I only have 2 sticks.
