Lucky, I'm Iviv, based in thatcham, Berkshire. A castle design would be nice to see, mine is currently awful. A ring of stone, with a ring of wood on either side of it, and a wooden gatehouse, as I've not gone far enough along any military tech trees for anything better. I know I should get a stone gatehouse as that's my one weak spot to the castle, but that would require 3 research points to get to :x
And mother, in your village screen, hit the button that looks like someone riding a horse in the top right, its probably below the golden chalice quest icon. From there, you can build scouts, though you need 100 gold, a spare peasant, and the relevant research to be able to train one. To get more, research more!
On the subject of scouts, I finally managed to be the first one to a resource stash. Only stone, but I got 390 honour for it! I didn't realise it gave so much, now I'm glad I'm putting so many points into scout speed

Which hampshire parish are you in?
I still haven't worked out how to search for people.

As to your castle i was the same for a while just build two walls out from your gate house and build another gate house. Also wrap the gate house so there is only one space for them to attack it. Ill try show you on here.

The two I's show they can only get to one spot of a possible 3 with the gate house making it stronger and a second gate house makes the over all thing a lot stronger.

Try doing the diagram in CODE tags, should work and not move the characters about.
98 peasants, 28 archers and 8 pikemen. I lost 9 archers, and some wooden walls, with heavy damage to sections of stone. All in all, not too bad at all. Especially for 1744 honour
Don't think I'll be able to recover the archers in time for the next attack though, time to spread them out a little more!

Wow its all of 74,000 gold to buy me a village in hampshire. I am in 2 minds as to whether to move atm as the parish I am in is well advanced in the bonuses for production

Glad I started again, its going a lot better this time.. And reading through that little guide and doing the tutorial again as helped me get my head around a bit more of it this time. Just need to wait for some wood to build another hovel or two now before I can start making scouts etc.
Is the 'Sally Forth' research worth it? 10 research points for 10 units every time you're attacked? Seems pretty good value, especially if they are of use. And even if they aren't too powerful (Though knights are always fairly strong aren't they?) they would hold up the enemy units for longer while my archers pin-cushion them?
It's not bad that reply i showed you had a couple a useful tech if everything is going well and you have a few points spare but get your castle set up first.

How are people getting on?
Haha i just reached the rank of page woot. Been building my forces and took out a snakes castle earlier only lost 50 archers my pikemen and swordsmen made quick work. Steadily making a lot of honour a day now which is good.

I'm currently an Alderman (12), though still lacking in a military. About to expand my army size to 70, which are all archers sitting on walls. Honestly, I don't think anything else is needed on defense, which is all I really do. Though if there's no bandit camp near then I do send most of my archers out to wolf hideouts for easy honour, its rare that I lose anyone.

Army size is useful im currently needing atleast 70 archers on my walls to stop any major damage. When attacking wolves sending peasants (pikemen when you have them) take the hits from the wolves so your valuable archers dont die. Remember how easy a peasant is to train rather than waiting for another bow.
