***The Official Gran Turismo 5 Thread***

Yeah the prize cars are a bit poor and the lack of events really shows later in the game when you realise how much XP you need to open everything.

then i should just give up. this game is a total failure and anybody who can't see this is either a fanboi or they just got into gaming. I have been playing this series for more than 10 years now and this is weak. I bought a ps3 just for final fantasy and GT and they have both been two of the worst games i have ever played in terms of content and game planning.

for crying out loud in GT1 i was able to tweak gear ratios and turbo pressure. In GT5 I cannot even upgrade the brakes. This is gameplay from '95 in graphics from '06. Ditch this bullcrap!

Pre-order from Amazon? Me too, I'd like some codes :( My Cobra, R8, M3, Murcielago and 300 SL Chrome Line codes kind soften the blow a little :p

EDIT: Do we even get codes?

Email them.

They sent me my codes, except the 2nd one doesn't work.

The 1st one is the McLaren F1 which I *nearly* won the Expert All Stars with.

So has anyone on here made a dummy account just to get a free birthday car? I may do and see what i get then gift it to myself lol.

That would be cheating and a complete waste of time.... pretty sure the birthday cars are mostly rubbish. ;)

tried it twice for 1967 for the muira

ended up with a mazda cosmos l10a the first time and a cougar x7 the 2nd.. and now im out of email addresses.

I did '67 too and got a Miura :D I think you can only get a car up to your level like you can in the dealerships (if you see what I mean). So I created an account and sent the gift ticket to my real account which was high enough to get the Miura

Who am I emailing, just the regular amazon query mail address? I don't even remember if I should have gotten any with the Collectors Edition

Had a good couple of hours on this.. Enjoying it so far. Not liking the slower cars very much and im struggling with some of the licences. I got the first International Licence. Currently level 12. Completed just the Sunday cup on A-Spec as ive been playing the Special Events a bit.. Enjoying these. The Top Gear Camper one annoyed the hell out of me as i thought it was one lap. I managed to get into 2nd on the 1st lap then as i went over the line i noitced! So managed 1st with ease!! Some of the graphics are a bit suspect and ive had some slow down but really pleased so far!

I ordered it on 21st September, so it's been pre-ordered, but I'm not sure if all pre-orders are entitled to them?

Let me know how it goes, if you get some I'll hassle them too :D :p

Oh come off it, Ive been gaming since way before the original GT, just got a PS3 having missed the last two games so I can hardly be considered a fan boy.
If you can get past the rough edges and put up with the archaic structure then theres a really solid racing game in there and a lot of fun to be had with some of the special events, some fantastic cars and tracks and pretty good mp.

Stop talking out of your arse.

+1

It's not perfect, nowhere near perfection to be honest. It does some things badly and some things well, if you don't like it then fair enough but to say it's a terrible game in general is a bad comment to make. It may be terrible in your opinion but that does not technically make it a bad game.

It needs a whole lot of new events added via DLC, I can't believe how small the game is, seems they realised this and thought making people grind for 100 hours would make up for it.

two points that you made: rough edges and archaic structure. that's in a game that was delayed for around 3 years? And yes, i have been gaming long before the original GT too and I can smell the bullcrap. Unfortunately i have also stepped on it.
You skipped the last two you say? Grab a PS2 and try them. The handling is the same. There is nothing new in this game apart from the 200 premium cars.

I am not the one talking out of my ass. It is PD who just served a game out of their ass and you are praising it. Guess what. Praise it some more and they will serve you the same crap again next time. Wake up and give them a slap for it and maybe the next one will not be gameplay from '95 with graphics from 2008.

You really wanna go into some details without putting it under the microscope? Because I am pretty sure i can argue my case to the point that pretty much anyone will agree this game is not even worth of a trash can.

They have wasted all this time producing nothing new. They have wasted all this time modelling ancient cars that nobody wants to drive. 'Good going on the WW2 VW Jeeps' Such an inspired choice of a car. I bet millions of gamers were dying to race those around The Ring.
They have wasted all this time making no improvements on sound at all! I have the thing hooked up to studio monitors and all the cars pretty much sound the same. It's like they are pumping the same range of frequencies over and over no matter what car you are driving.
In GT1 i was able to adjust the turbo pressure (you know, like in the real world) so i didn't have to buy all the different turbo options and waste money. What happened to that? Too lazy to simulate power and torque curves as turbo pressure goes up?
Races are inconsistent. Check out tire restrictions in A-spec and B-spec events. They don't match... Care to explain why?
AI... Do I need to go further? How do you even put up with this junk?
Car models? Good job on the premiums. I wish they were 400 premiums and no other car in the game instead of 200 premiums and 800 ****tyums. And yes, the difference is obvious between the two even in races. I have my PS3 hooked up to a PC monitor and I play fairly close to it at 1080p.
AntiAliasing... What? Where?
Why am i restricted to what I can install in cars? If i want a supercharger I will install a supercharger and not a turbocharger you fascists! Again, too lazy to model car performance for different types of modifications. Same applies to aerodynamics. Not all cars are eligible. Lazy programming.
Remember GT2? You know, in PS1, where you had the option to make a race car out of any car more or less? That was gone until now and now that I see it, I see no cars eligible....
Screen tearing.... Hey mom is it me or does everything look stretchy?
Frame drops... Holy frame-dive batman, did everything just go in slo-mo for a few seconds?

And I ask you now. Looking at this game, at its present state can you honestly tell me how they have spent all those years of development and delays? Did they improve cars? Hardly. Did they improve physics? Not really, not compared to GT4. Did they improve menus? Nope. Did they add some kind of tournament mode that can go on for days or maybe real time events like sunday cups? Nada. Just the same old stale licences/challenges and the same bunch of events, most of which still carry their 10 year old names.

Honestly I can keep going forever. Yes, some arguments are totally subjective but if you sit down and look at the game objectively you will still find major issues, not only compared to other games but as a standalone game that has not evolved at all in more than a decade.

Rant over.

I still cannot find a pickup truck, so guess i'll just do the International license to get one...

TBH this game is just as I said many pages back in this thread. Its GT1, GT2, GT3 and GT4 (quite literally in some places, some of the standard cars are literally from GT4) and its the same old gameplay.

Its nice to have a GT game on PS3, Forza 3 is forza and GT is erm GT.

Just wish PD had done 350 premium cars and left the 800 odd standard cars out, they really do show the game up at times..

In photomode you can't zoom in, it displays a no entry sign for standard cars if you zoom in too close.. PD knew they weren't up to scratch, poor decision. Should have just left them out..

It is a good game though, just let down in places.

Holy crap when did Bill Gates buy a Playstation?

lol was a bit lengthy to just erm say. Its a GT game on PS3, nothing new or changed, just updated graphics.. lol

Oh well, folks like us who have played the game for hours have got our £34 out of it.. so I'm not all that fussed anymore...

I got enjoyment from it, reminded me of why I own a PS3...!!

I think the game is ok for a passtime, it could have been much better.

Like many have said, should have left the standard cars out, and just inserted more premium cars. I mean why have a Premium model and standard model of the same car? That I do not know.

Physics are good enough for me, they're not too much like an arcade neither too much like a simulation.

The sound could improve more, I would like to here louder turbo spools/blow-off valve sounds.
