Old people, Snow, and Newspapers

I've noticed a really strange thing these past few days.

When I've been outside clearing snow or walking to the village shop, all I keep hearing is "Have the newspapers arrived at the shop?" Not, "Is there bread and milk?" but chuffing newspapers.

The ones on our street are particularly annoying me because most of them have got internet access that I helped them to set up. They've all got TV's.

Yet they must have their papers. WTF??!!

Lots of older people have a routine involving newspapers which they've had for many years.

Who are we to look down on that simply because we prefer other ways of getting our news?

My parents are like this, I'd be the same if the internet/power went down for a few days. They like their cup of tea and newspaper routine in the morning, just as I like my bitching on OCUK and reading the BBC News website (Then bitching more on OCUK).

Indeed. Judging people on their harmless routines? a bit harsh!

I buy a paper everyday, sometimes several to obtain a broader opinion. I'm 28. I don't feel, act or look old. I have the Internet at the work place and at home. Hell, I'm compiling this post on an iPhone.

Generalise much?

I'd rather they were buying newspapers than panic buying all the long life milk which won't even go out of date until after the next load of snow.

So eeerr...who else is thinking of Family Guy right now?

Edit - though to be fair I think it was more a newspaper as opposed to food and water. As much as the media have shouted doom, gloom and that nothing's going to get to where it should ever again I think these days old people will probably survive this current cold snap.

I've always found it quaint that old people get up and out so early. They always look so smart too, perhaps gardening centres have a private early session with a strict dress code?

I cant wait to be old, just so I can get away with saying what I want and being able to wear a hat daily and no one bat an eyelid!

What ever happened to holding doors open for the fairer sex and a doffing of the hat...
