***The Official Gran Turismo 5 Thread***

Really

I guess (hope) this is one more thing they will fix in a patch.

I really dislike the money situation, it looks like you only have enough money to buy 2 or 3 relatively good cars or need serious grinding to get more.

I am holding off buying cars as I hate to find out later on I need a million to buy a competitive car, I have 700k and want a Ferrari 458 but if I later find I need a proper racecar for 950k I am screwed.

Save as much money as possible in the early stages because in the Extreme events there's a Formula 1 race which you need to buy a second hand Formula Gran Turismo, they only show up in the used dealership and they cost 4 million credits each. :(

No idea if you win one in B-Spec mode or not but if you can then I guess it's not as bad as having to grind for money, though the tediousness of B-Spec compared to grinding the same race is arguable.

Usually, there's always a way of doing an event without needing to spend millions.

Like the Racecar event in Expert, can be done with the Minolta you win from Like The Wind which can be done in a ZR1 easily :p

Yeah, I use a lot of prizecars for races but making a ZR1 competitive in Like The Wind does require a lot (if not all) of upgrades, doesn't it?

£750k for car + upgrades, but that makes it a beast of car. Will blow most competition away. Better than a couple of million for a racecar.
In GT4 I found that the best/most fun allround car was something like a Calsonic Skyline LM car that sell for 950k in GT5

Are you saying that a ZR1+upgrades is better?
I assume that a Race body conversion is possible for the ZR1?

My only biggest gripe with this game in all honesty is the fact I cant bolt massive turbos and 4wd systems to any car I like. I really enjoyed Forza 3 because of this. I guess its a different type of game though..

Have you found one yet? I'm at level 23, with 3.5 million atm training my B spec driver (level 20) so I'm just waiting for one atm......

I have the Calsonic, but yet to drive it. The ZR1 is great though.

Yeah it can be race modded.

Yeah then 1 million for a touring car, 4.9m for a F1

Though, with the grinding you need to do to get to level 24, the F1 car is soon affordable. I have £5m atm.

Nah I haven't seen one yet though after realising I had to buy one I just went crazy and spent my 2 million savings on a garage full of Ferrari's! :o

I'm level 24 at the moment and I'm working towards silvers and golds on my licenses and training my B-Spec guy up for some extra cash/cars with no effort. I've done all the events thus far apart from the Formula 1 event so I better start saving again. 45 or so times around that American Speedway event will be enough for the F1 car. :p

Yeah it is, but then you are 10 million away from a real F1 car again, why did they not make the F1 event use the Ferrari F1's? would make more sense

Yeah me too, I bought a Mazda Carol '68 (500kg 18HP) and hoped to lighten it and increase the hp somewhat, unfortunately I can't put a turbo on it!

But it's not really a different type of game is it? They are both simulator-esque console games, and they pretty much compete directly. The fact of the matter is GT5 severely lags behind FM3 in some areas, car customisation being the biggest. Saying 'but it's a different type of game' is merely making excuses for GT5's shortcomings in that department.

They don't compete directly because they're on different platforms. That's like saying Crysis competes with Killzone 2 because they are similar games. I wonder how many Xbox 360's were sold purely for Forza 3 and how many PS3's were sold because of GT5.
