Both at £75, seem good value for entry into SSD World :)

I know the Corsair has faster write, but as it's just a boot drive would I be better going with the more-proven Intel X25-V?

Thanks!

The ocz can be got a lot cheaper then that elsewhere.

To the OP i went from the intel drive to the ocz vertex, there is a noticeable speed difference, not massive, but certainly noticeable, so either of those 2 drives are good.

For just over £90 u can get the 60Gb vertex 2E if u look around google shop it.

Tempting a war of words here I know. But I don't know how anyone manages with something as small as a 40GB drive, even if it's "just" the boot drive.

I only have W7 and a few basic applications and benchmark programs on my Vertex 2E and it takes up around 33GB. Documents/pictures/music/downloads are all pointed at one of my mechanical hard drives. I reckon 60GB is a better bet for a boot drive. Only my opinion of course.

In terms of drives (even if just meant as a boot drive), better to get something bigger than you initially think you need. You always end up putting more on it than you think you would / will.

With free next day delivery?

I've decided to wait and see what the OCuk advent calendar brings :D

Maybe not next day, but it can be had £10 cheaper else where, with free shipping (2/3 days).

And at this time of year and weather atm, don't count on the next day as a guarantee lol, took dpd 3 days to deliver my drive to me haha.

Thanks guys.

The more I think about it, the more I see your point about stepping up 'one-notch' to a 60GB drive. I do like the sound of the Vertex 2E at *ahem* around the £100 mark ;)

Would ideally buy from OcUK TBH though - do their drives usually comes with the latest firmware installed? (This scares me!)

I bought my drive a couple of weeks back and they were already coming with firmware version 1.23 (this was a MAJOR update / upgrade). Pretty sure that I've seen other people comment that they are now coming with 1.24 (the latest to date).

Though if you check the notes that come with 1.24, the only difference between this and 1.23, appears to be a very minor bug fix.

"Fixed rare corner case where sequential write with IOMETER 2006 could cause errors" ... big deal!

I'm not even going to upgrade from 1.23 for this!

So you don't have to worry about the firmware version IMHO.

Enjoy.
