How Much Do You Pay For Your Broadband?

£7.50 for the sky unlimited upto 20meg service.

Distance from the exchange means I only sync at about 11meg. But I pretty much max that out all the time, and never have any traffic shaping.

£12.50 a month BT line rental + £25 a month for 8mb (well 3 for me!) with 60gb a month from NDO. Unlimited bandwidth off peak which is useful for all night usenet downloading ;) Not the best value but I've been signed up for 4 years now and share the bill 3 ways so I can't be bothered changing it. I've had sky for 3 years so should have signed up for their adsl 2 but I just can't be bothered. I also work for BT and can have BT Broadband for free but funnily enough I've never taken up the offer :p

£15 on O2 "Up to" 24Mb. I get about 20Mb speeds and its been brilliant for the last 3 years.

I was paying slightly more until my contract was due for renewal last year and they offered to drop to £15 if I signed up again. Contract is now due for renewal again but I don't really see any reason to move so will probably be sticking with 'em.

£30 per month with Zen, 8MB, 100GB Cap, zero limiting of any kind though which is why I want it.

God damn not being able to get 20MB etc yet :(

I'm from Sussex Uni, and was getting like 4mbits? What sort of setup do you have there? We have something called resnet that every wired computer on campus connects to.

Yes we have ResNet. Download speeds are only as good as in that image when not many people are using it. The main problem is streaming iPlayer, which I think is throttled. If you download a show, it downloads quickly (1-2 MB/s usually) but watching live is impossible at high quality (1.5 Mbps) most of the time and sometimes even lower qualities (500-800 kbps) don't work without constant buffering. Downloading is fine with me but one important thing can only be watched live - Match of the Day (2). :(

Are you using 100Mb ethernet? I've got a feeling your speeds may increase drastically with GbE.

I got the about the same speed on 100Mb ethernet, switched to GbE and it shot straight to over 650Mb/s.

My network card is 1 Gbps but the connection in the rooms is 100 Mbps so it makes no difference. Files can be shared within campus at up to 11.5 MB/s - if the infrastructure was gigabit ethernet it'd be even better, lol.

They are in the process of upgrading all of the fibre-optic cabling on campus but I dunno if that'll extend to ResNet.

Too much...end of.
BT (just this week had CPW LLU installed in the exchange and looking at my options...)
6.5 meg down...448 up
Think we're paying about £40 a month.

hi Robboftw, I too am in lincs, problem I got I have BT and peak times are just awfull, the lads xbox wont even find games for cod bo in peak times which is no good to him or me, got a question, how well do zen peform at peak times, at the minut with BT my connection is like a yoyo, can be getting 5 Mb one minute and the next minute 1.5Mb, with pings up and down all the time, how is your ping with Zen, I really need to find a better service as it causes quite a lot of stress

Zen are absolutely superb.

The speeds are exactly the same at peak times as they are at non-peak times. The only downside is the cap (100GB on my one), but I doubt you would get through that unless you are downloading loads, just gaming and browsing wouldn't get near it.

The problem with BT and the cheaper solutions are the traffic shaping/fair usage policies in the evenings as you've described. There is no such thing with Zen :)

The customer service and everything else is also second to none, which is a lovely bonus!

thanks, the cap of 100GB wouldn't be a problem, i find i use around 60GB a month, thats just browsing and youtube and gaming, I think I will be definatly swapping over, just been looking at zen site, is it the business service i would need

Zen is awesome.

I believe the Zen Pro service is only 448 upload. If you want 832 upload I can definitely recommend the Xilo Office 80GB package - it's 80GB monthly between 8am and 8pm, and unmonitored the rest of the time, so you can actually pull down a significant amount of data with some scheduling. You also get lots of static IP's for Free, and as an IPStream Max Premium package it is prioritised at the exchange over the other people on standard IPStream Max packages so you receive more consistent throughput at peak times.

I'm a reasonably heavy user but according to the online stats I've only been doing around or just over 40GB a month during the monitored peak hours, will probably drop to the Office 40GB package and save myself a tenner a month (One month rolling contract makes that painless)

O2 ADSL2+ (LLU) - Unlimited usage, upto 24Mb speed (though my line can only get 13Mb) - £7.50 p/m.

Was on Be paying £20 p/m for exactly the same, but then a certain OcUK member hit me up with the O2 Friends & Family deal  :).
