UVB-76 - The mysterious Russian broadcasting station

Interesting read. I've heard the Lincolnshire Poacher numbers station on my Dad's short wave sets. Very freaky and intriguing to hear them, sounds like something straight from an old sci-fi flick.

tbh... I wouldn't be surprised if it was simply designed to waste the time of people at GCHQ, NSA etc...

The Russians set up some station broadcasting a load of beeps, put some meaningless patterns inside the signals and in the process resources get used up at agencies trying to intercept russian comms.

spy network, one time pads and number stations. Just about everyone had / has one. The UK's was based in Cyprus and was nicknamed the Lincolnshire poacher

Which is coincidently enough the name of a pub in Nottingham!

Very cool, I like a good mystery :D

It wouldn't surprise me too, if it was simply there to waste GCHQ's time. Even if they did broadcast a completely random message there would be people seeing if it meant something. And you wouldn't be able to not listen to it, just in case. What a great way of adding some extra load to the 'enemy' resources :p

Which is coincidently enough the name of a pub in Nottingham!

Which is most probably named after the Lincolnshire Poacher song

If you listen to the accordion, sometimes it plays the dee-di-di-di-di-di-di-di di--di-di---di-di----di-deeeee that used to be broadcast over the Lincolnshire Poacher :)

^^LOL at the top comments on that video, someone must have beaten us to it :P

I have no idea. Some said it was being used for brain control and jamming communications. People have detected hidden signals:

I presume that its cold war secrets will remain locked away forever.

I thought that was really interesting, till he gets to the end and states about contacting aliens. It sounds just like a simple morse code, bit of a leap he makes there!

Worst 'member of my family works for MI6' post ever.

lol nope sadly not as exciting as that :( Plus I don't really have any family left!

Just someone who has been a radio man all his life with some other interests that might have heard of this before.
