Golf GTI mrkV

Well you are the OP - what do you want? Refinement or Prestige? They are both quite different.

And the Golf isn't prestigious really, you'd need the A3 for that.

If MK5 GTI then does OP want manual or dsg? :)

I've been looking at the manual because I think I'd prefer it for more spirited drives. Also, the potential cost if something goes wrong with the DSG box. Or are they reliable and nothing to worry about?

I think you've got the right idea there given your budget.

The thing with DSG and your budget is that its getting to the stage where you never know. I've seen on mk5 forums people shelling out thousands of pounds on a new box after so many miles. Then again my mate has DSG and hasn't had any problems with it (though it is just about under vw warranty still). So manual is probably better bet.

Edition 30s might be worth a look as they should be able to hold more value.

Obviously depends how much money your willing to spend. As far as options are concerned I know that things like xenons and touch screen can be retro fitted so I wouldn't worry to much about those. Best to shop around and find the best you can. Also would be worth getting it remapped in the future if you want more power. :)

Ermmm ok? 0.5 is what bumper to wheel distance from 0-60? Not a large margain by any stretch!

6.7 vs 6.3 seconds 0-60 sprints, assuming constant acceleration, would result in roughly a 5m gap between the cars.

you look at how much you have to tune a car to get a 0.5 second improvement in 0-60 to realise how big of a gap it actually is !

erm no

lots of subtle difference from the audi to the dub

off the top of my head

engine maps
dsg maps are different((albeit thats not really the engine)
the audi runs a noticeably shorter inlet tract
different intake trumpets on the cold external side of the air box
i could fire etka up and give you a part by part comparison but my beers getting warm

its like comparing 2 cartons of orange juice one from asda one from tesco

their both exactly the same, but their not

Having owned both the engine map is the same at least from a driving perspective. You are right the DSG map is different (more aggressive on the R32).

The other 'differences' account for nothing in the real world as they sound like differences due to the design of the front end of the car.
