Little discussion for us. Personally i think it's absurd the amount of money that footballers get paid. Surely it will all implode, not sustainable at all!
Thoughts?
Yes they do, the world goes around by money, SOMEONE has to make huge money in this country, it doesn't matter which group of people it is, everyone will think its unfair, thats life.
Simple fact is, we need rich people, and they bring in a HUGE amount of money from TV rights, both in this country and from other countries, money that wouldn't be coming in without footballers on big wages. Half of that money ends up as taxes, paying for your kids to go to school, and your roads to be paved. Every WEEK someone on 50k a year will pay more tax than the average person pays every three years, without that kind of tax income our country would be in major trouble.
Its entertainment, its BY FAR the most popular form of entertainment in this country so why would it be strange they make lots of money.
Film stars make a shedload of cash, for even less work, while a ticket to see a film with them in costs a heck of a lot less than the average premier league ticket.
Football generates a lot of money, better to see it go into thousands of players pockets, than all into the pockets of a handful of owners.
They buy expensive cars, which they pay tax on, they have expensive houses, which provide jobs to be built, and those builders pay tax.
It makes a lot of sense for the more watched and attended form of entertainment to attract the highest wages around, I have no clue why people find it surprising, at all.
Lets say, for instance, that footballers wages were cut by 75%, the tv money was cut by 75%, ticket prices were cut by 75%, what changes, several billion less in tax is collected by the government, and what, who does that help, whose lives does that improve.
Simple fact is, advertising, tv people, they throw money at football as so many people watch it, a LOT of that money ends up in the players pockets, those who generate the viewers, not unfair, and in turn they employ thousands of other people, pay billions in tax which helps pay for the rest of us to get free services.
