What are you doing with your phone to claim its shockingly short? I'm easily getting over a day out of it, that's with texting, browsing, playing an hour or so of angry birds, a few phone calls etc
Well it is shockingly short, when you first get it. With all the setting up and piddling about it's suddenly dead by 5pm and you think...'wtf'.
Something has dramatically improved for me in the month I've had it. I have no idea whether anyone's proved that the DHD battery does actually improve, or if it's just a red herring caused by correct setting up and a reduced amount of fiddling (peeing about being inherent with any new phone purchase).
Tweaking the settings certainly improves battery life...for example, I had umpteen Android apps updating themselves that had been replaced by third party apps - disabling them and any accounts that you don't need to sync (hello HTC Sense / Hub) obviously helps.
Brightness was set to auto out of the box so that hasn't changed.
I run the phone with GPS and bluetooth disabled most of the time.
Having a switch widget (I use the stock one) on your homepage encourages you to switch off unrequired services.
Set screen to turn off quicker.
Disable keypad vibrate.
Uninstall any apps that you may have installed in the playing around stages that you really don't need, just in case they're sapping power somehow.
Doing all of the above and more will allow a very good day's use. Most people, I'd imagine, recharge their smartphones every night even if they think it could go another day, so as long as it lasts a day's moderate-heavy usage then that's all you really need.
When I think of what this phone does and has and then compare it to the battery life of the average laptop (my laptop dies annoyingly quickly with internet usage and I basically leave it plugged in whenever I can) with the same usage, I start to think that it's actually fairly reasonable.
As soon as an upgraded battery comes out, I'll be getting one and keeping the stock one in the cradle as a spare.
As an aside...the stock power lead is VERY short on the DHD in my opinion. If you want to use it while it's plugged in for any reason, you need to be very close to the socket.
