Just been offered a 1996 750iL V12 for £1000

I have no interest in big cars, i'm the opposite of Jez i guess - i would buy it just to smoke around in a V12 for a bit - the sound has to be worth it right?

I think the OP needs to find a way to borrow it for a couple of days - see if the experience is worth the gamble.

So many opinions! I'm back in work on thursday and nat well see if I can borrow it just to see if it will put a smile on my face.

However it depends on the wether as I'm NOT going out in the snow in it. 130bhp FWD - 350bhp ish RWD is not the best idea!

I suspect it will put a smile on your face. The thing is though, this will be the fact it's an E38 not a 750i - ie, a 728i or 740i might put that same smile on your face with less risk and thus more long term enjoyment..

TBH, if you are debating this purchase then I guess you either don't have the money to waste on this type of purchase or you are too sensible to waste it. In either case you should not buy it, save for your Monaro.

interesting proposition,

if its as good as you say it is and the seller is putting a years ticket on it AND sorting the suspension

A) he's mad and basically giving you the car for nothing

b) you should be putting a grand in his hand at the earliest opportunity.

worst case scenario you end up sticking it on ebay as spares or repairs and getting a fair chunk of your cash back on it ;)

all depends really on the condition the car is in, if its been loved from day one and has had tens of thousands lavished on it over the years then bite his hand off.

if its a ropey nail with no way of checking that 120k mileage and no history RUN

things i do know, 120k genuine miles FSH but not sure if it's all BMW (i can ask)

my boss loves the car but wants something newer as it no longer has the image he wants to portray?!?

Well it sounds like hes looked after it then, so buy it if you like it, dont turn it into an epic :D

I wonder what he means by 'do the suspension'. He could mean it has a knocking droplink which he's going to replace for £100...

A full suspension refresh of bushes, dampers etc on an EDC equipped E38 could easily run to excess of £2000 with labour. He's not going to pay that before selling the car for a grand.

i'll get back to you all at the weekend as i won't see him untill Thursday PM and i'll get some more details.

might be the case of....... Anyone want to buy a 2004 2.0 Petrol Focus with 34K miles.... one lady owner (my wife) LOL

There is just something about a well cared fore and well specced e38 that I just adore.

The looks of the sport are just :)
