*** The Official HTC Desire (Bravo) Thread! ***

i seriously still think after having my desire for however long ( :) ) that sense is far better than stock, both have their faults granted, but for me the main bug bear is the dialer, the sense t9 dialer cannot or as yet has not been beaten (dialer one blah blah dont come close imo) and at the end of the day this is a phone after all and if making a call is a pain as it can be with the stock dialer then why bother!

Agreed, the only good thing Google do well with in Android is Google services and applications, but they can't design a decent UI to save their lives.

People are banging on about getting updates Faster, they had FroYo for only 12 weeks before HTC rolled out their FroYo with Sense ROM.

People are harping on about Gingerbread now too, but does it still lack FM Radio, touch focus and face detection camera? Wouldn't be surprised if it still did.

You seem to be the only one "banging" on about how awful stock Android is yet the rest of us are fully enjoying the experience

Hardly, there's quite a few people on here and XDA who agree that Sense adds more functionality to the phone.

In fact, I quoted one such person in my reply?

I also prefer stock android over sense as well. The only thing, which I quite like about sense is the camera and the browser, would much rather have the stock android contact system than the sense one.

Plus personally I really don't like the sense UI when it comes to the settings menu, the personalization etc. far to many menus and sub menus etc. stock has it just right IMO.

Originally I really liked the HTC sense widgets and the look of the launcher etc. but since having my android mobile since April and the amount of 3rd party apps/widgets and launchers that have come out since then, IMO they are far better than any of the stock android or sense widgets, much better customization features, use less memory and better looking in every possible way IMO etc. especially launcher pro plus :)

AuraxTSense v8.1.1 now out on XDA

edit: In true Neo style 8.1.2 is now out on XDA - He has made this a 17mb upgrade for a change for those coming from 8.1.1...!!

Okay so awhile ago I used unrevoked to flash 2.2 Froyo onto my Desire. **edit** Around 4th August judging from the old zips on the SD card.

Now I fancy trying out the Oxygen 1.0, do I need to have S-On or S-Off to be able to do this? Or can I just flash it anyway?

Been reading the xda forum and I was going to use unrevoked to just re-root it, a guide on xda said it wont do it any harm, but unrevoked is telling me that "device passion is not supported at this time" but I think thats because of the Froyo release I have on there...

Any thoughts?

UnrEVOked doesn't flash anything ROM wise, it just alters the HBOOT to allow root access to be gained. Once you've ran unrEVOked you don't have to run it again unless you run a HTC RUU which reverts the HBOOT back.

Once you're rooted and you have a recovery image installed, you just need to boot into recovery and flash any future ROMs from recovery.

You shouldn't need S-OFF as flashing from recovery allows access to the /system partition.

Just make a Nandroid backup, wipe all data and install the Oxygen ROM and recommended radio.

S-OFF is useful if you want to use apps like AdFree to block ads in apps/websites and so on.

Also S-OFF opens the way to the Table patches such as N1Table for Oxygen/AOSP ROMs that support it, you gain more internal memory for app data storage and a snappier phone all round.

I was going to use data2ext but I'm not confident in its ability to be reliable and stable enough yet especially on sd cards below class 8 specification as I only have a class 6.

Can this phone handle large numbers of texts? I'm still getting slowdowns at random. Sometimes typing a forum post takes Aaaaaaaaaaaggggggggeeeeeesssssssssss and feels like wading through treacle. Sometimes its quick and snappy.

I have about 5k text messages saved. Could this be the reason? I'd rather not trash them all if its not related.

Going to install Cyanogen 6.1 as it's out of RC2 now and final. Going to give it a full on go this time.Oxygen Nandroid created! Should give me some play time while AdamG gets on with Oxygen 1.1!

If I remember back, you have like 13MB of free internal memory right?

If so, I'd suggest removing some apps or rooting so you can use Apps2SD.

5k messages are a bit extreme anyway, perhaps clean them out or install SMS Backup which backs up every message to your Gmail account under the SMS label.

Other apps exist that back them to the SD too but Gmail is more convenient as you can access that label from the phone via Gmail app...

Do you find Oxygen snappier? Is it possible to add the HTC browser to that or are there better browsers you would recommend.

I've had my phone a few weeks and enjoying Leedroid now I have Tasker set to put the phone into Airplane overnight and some other battery optimisations in place.

Having come from iPhone I have to say I am pleasantly surprised by the quality of the Android apps as well as the % that are free.

Compared to LeeDroid they're pretty much similar, I like Leedroid but the lack of updates since he's gotten a DesireHD makes me wonder on the future of Desire LD ROM updates when other ROMs are updating thick and fast so I switched to Oxygen!

Oxygen is more lightweight too but Cyanogen ROM is what I'm playing with at the moment as it has a lot more options and is usually what other ROMs are based around since Cyan is first to add the new toys :)

I've removed a few apps and am now up to 30mb, I dont have a huge amount of apps and most are on the SD card anyway.

Will try deleting all the texts.

Even though apps are stored on SD card on FroYo, app data is still stored on internal memory - Using Apps2SD (proper) frees up more internal mem and S-OFF+N1Table goes even further with 195MB free internal memory so everything is thick and fast :)

Just root! You'll soon wonder why you didn't to begin with!
