Probably not the kind of question I should be asking, but I recently started playing FM 2010 Lite on my iPhone and promptly got hooked. So I played the demo of FM11 and I liked it but just seemed a bit fiddly. I was wondering what everyone thought of FM11 Vs CM equivalent?

(I know that at somepoint in the past, the original development team of CM moved off and created the FM series and had assumed that FM was always the true successor, but was wondering if CM had improved over the years or is FM the choice of football management gaming).

There is only one Football management game. Goes by the name of Football Manager.

Nothing comes close.

I would get FM11 if FM10 didn't perform like warmed up crap on my MacBook. Seriously, the game slows down the fans ramp up and it just gets boiling hot, no idea why seeing as it's just tables and lists and bits of text.

:(

Only thing I miss from footie management games is the simple fun ones. I miss LMA Manager 2001 on PS1. Nowadays FM just seems to in depth for me....

Get your self smcfancontrol and ramp them up to 100%, the game is VERY processor intensive (heats my mbp up like a beast and can burn my legs after a few hours if im not careful). It also depends on how many leagues you stick on and what you think acceptable performance is...

Oh and FM is the only football management game out there!

I disagree...I think CM (2008 year) was the best CM game...patches brought it up to date. Mainly think it's better than FM as FM is just TOO detailed...takes an hour to sort stuff between games ffs. I prefer to pick up and play with a BIT of detail...not hours and hours of mundane microscopic detail to wade though.

See this is what I was concerned with when I played FM2010. The last time I played FM was when the original team created the CM series (yes that long ago).

Now I have played FM2010, it just seems so detailed and micromanagement. I suppose its not bad, and once where you know where everything is menu-wise it will be come second nature, but I guess I asked this question in light of the concerns I have listed here.

I can litterally lose track of time and space when playing FM.

If I've nothing to do, I can sit down and play anywhere between 18-30 hours easily.

I gotta admit as a longtime player of the series (since CM'93) that in recent times I too have got a bit overwhelmed by all the detail and micromanagement in FM. The last time I tried it I remember starting up a new season, spent a few hours in preseason putting in bids, picking formation etc.... and then I just gave up before even playing a game!

Not saying that the level of detail is a bad thing, I can see why people would like it, but maybe an 'arcade mode' or similar would be good which has a heavier focus on matchdays or something.

The last CM was pretty good, its certainly easier to get into and more 'fun' than FM of recent years, it harks back to CM2 up to CM3 where i felt things got a bit stale and over complicated.

CM '99 was the last version i could get into, cm93 still has a place in my heart though

You can play FM quick, get your scouts sorted etc, formation done and player settings, and I often holiday on matches as I find that takes the longest.

Menus become easy once you're used to it, there was a big change from 09>10 but it's fine once you use it for an hour or two.

You can get lost in this game, make it as detailed or not as you want to, doing just about anything you like :)
