Wikileaks - latest leak

Traditionally it means that something is put in danger...
No ****. I meant, I doubt wikileaks has endangered life directly (like me firing a gun in your general direction). It has no doubt done severe damage to diplomacy and US reputation, hence endangered that.

So in what way does reputation = lives?

Need to back pedal a bit faster.

He doesn't need to backpedal at all. International reputations between nations engender a kind of trust in diplomacy. Failure of this trust can indeed lead to a breakdown in diplomacy. Diplomatic trust is about 'face' and in the world of international politics 'face' is an essential currency especially with countries such as Russia and China.

We are lucky that international relations are cordial currently and that the cables are being largely ignored, this may not always be the case however and when the only Superpower is losing 'face' with its trading and diplomatic partners it is only a matter of time before someone takes advantage of that and the US is forced into more direct action to acheive its goals.

As we have seen in Iraq, direct US action endangers lives. So don't be so naive as to think the release of such innocuous cables have not the potential to do great harm.

If Julian isn't careful someone somewhere will take him down. Plenty businesses who act innocent will want him gone.

Watch the TED artical about what he has to say. Look at the major commotion he is causing world wide.

Lets be clear, American foreign policy endangers lives too.

As does ours. However given your background you must accept that sometimes it is best to let sleeping dogs lie.

Release the documents proporting to illegal actions, release the documents that are in the public interest but releasing every little idiosyncratic or potentially controversial thing a diplomat has reported to their superiors is just inane and potentially can increase tensions and derail diplomatic relations which in turn can lead to the very real potential for loss of life.

This has gone from a whisleblower telling the world what it needs to know, to an egomaniac telling the world what it really shouldn't know.

The Public want and need protection, they don't allways need to know how its done. Sometimes what is necessary to protect the public interest is not pretty and they might want to know, but that doesn't mean they should. You can see this surely?

Your welcome.

Like Julian, all I want is the truth and nothing but the trouth. I am sick of of businesses and governments releasing articals and then trying to cover up their mistakes.

I really hope Julian succedes to what he is trying to achieve because if he does not this could create war for what has now been leaked as he has provided the proof what we are all looking for.

Americas biggest mistake is how they have dealt with this. Their massive arrogance in any matter has reared its ugly head again.

They are like a spoilt child who has just been told no for the first time. Potential presidential candidates and influential figures calling for him to be assassinated. Pressuring everyone to try and screw wikileaks over. Declaring that the law should allow them to do what they want to Julian Assange and if it doesnt, then it should be changed.

They don't seem to realise that the world is a lot smarter than they are. The best hackers probably don't work for the government so its best not to **** off the black hat hackers in the public domain.

America has pushed its luck and its influence too far for too long and now its coming back to bite them. I have honestly given up on caring what is leaked next. I just hope they show the world America's and Everyone else's true colours.

100% agree with you
