Wikileaks - latest leak

Wheee, let's shoot the messenger.

'The Messenger' is a character who is simply given a message and told to deliver it.

This is rather different - nobody is telling him to do anything, nor giving him anything legitimately.

Now it's releasing the secrets of private commercial organisations? Where does he stop?

not released yet - its a carefully vetted process :) I think they will just want to release information whereby illegals acts are going on as before:

previous data from Julius Baer provided by Mr Elmer had shed light on tax evasion, the hiding of proceeds of criminal acts and "the protection of assets of those about to fall out of political favour".

Everything else should not be leaked.

Totally agree with you on that. This Wikileaks is a bit of a joke though to be honest now.

Mostly it's been a bunch of diplomats making jibs about others. Not really ground breaking stuff.

The Wikileaks wallpaper shows images of the Ark of the Covenant, references to Roswell and the JFK file.

Still at least it keeps the owner from facing sexual assault charges in Sweden. I bet he is laughing at us all.

All of us did, in sitting by and letting the people who are in charge and are doing things they shouldn't, and thus opening themselves to being exposed, get into such positions where they can do such things unimpeded by "law".

(Not necessarily a statement/position I'm willing to defend in any depth, but just something which crossed my mind just now.)

To perhaps give an answer to this, it is someone who believes (and has some evidence to support) that the proper "Judge and Jury" are not up to the task and/or are abusing their position(s). :)

I like how everyone was really excited about the government getting bank account details out of Liechtenstein, and about how they've suggested doing the same in Switzerland, because that way we can catch all the naughty tax evaders, but when Wikileaks suggest doing the same thing it's BAD.

I don't know how true all of this is, but on the radio on the way home today they were talking about the fate of Bradley Manning, the US soldier accused of leaking all this material to wikileaks in the first place. Now for sure, if the accusations are true he's broken the law and needs to face the consequences (as opposed to Assange who I can't see has broken any laws in the US), but these are the conditions Manning's people allege he's being kept in at the US Marine Corps brig:

- 24 hour solitary confinement
- under 24 hour camera surveillance
- no pillow
- no bed sheets
- not allowed to exercise, if he for example does press-ups in his cell the guards come on the loudspeaker and tell him to stop
- no books or other reading material
- no contact with any other prisoners
- he is not on suicide watch

He's been kept like this for months and has not been found guilty of a crime. I don't care what crime you have done, or are alleged to have done - this is a despicable way of treating another human being.

Link in today's Guardian confirming the fate of Manning :( Seems a bit odd that the US feels it can lecture China on human rights after reading that.

Wikileaks have not confirmed Manning as their source, but have so far not fulfilled a pledge to contribute to Manning's defence fund.

I believe that Wikileaks have now donated money to Manning's defence fund so fair play to them at least.
