HTC Desire HD (Ace)

When i connect the phone to the PC i can't view the phones as a storage device(windows doesnt recognise the drive thats been plugged in), the phone is set to "disk drive". Does anyone know how to solve this?

Does it show up in device manager? Maybe It's installed a bad driver. I gather you have tried resetting the phone?

Pretty much:

AMOLED:

- Producing much more vivid brighter colours
- The blacks are literally blacks
- Better for battery life
- Suppose to be better in sunlight, but a lot of people with the desire AMOLED have said that theres is unusable

SLCD:

- Better for text, more so the small text
- Probably more natural looking colours
- Can see back light bleed
- The blacks are like a very dark dull looking grey
- Sharper images
- Also pretty poor in sunlight

Although that is the desire now, which IMO has a better display in terms of the quality than the desire HD using the same SLCD technology, as I still think the desire HD screen looks kind of washed out compared to other screens (especially when viewed from certain angles, but then no one looks at there mobile from those angles :p), but as people on here, who own one, would say, you won't really notice it unless you have the mobiles side by side.

So comes down to personal preference in terms of the screen in the end.

EDIT:

For me, personally I would rather have SLCD out of the two.

AMOLED is the future, I would rather have the DHD with an AMOLED screen. The DHD's screen is good though, I just prefer the deeper blacks of the AMOLED even despite the LCD's advantages. Not sure how the above poster arrived at this conclusion:

The DHD's LCD screen looks better to me that the Desire's LCD version.

I really don't get how over-excited people get about screen differences.
All of the high end phones I have played with recently have had great screens. Unless you're lining them all up, the differences are, in my view, pretty unimportant.

Yeah it shows up as"android phone". Haven't tried to reset the phone as i dont want to lose my photos, vids ect.
Silly me, just realised everythings on the SD card anyway, ill try resetting.

Yeah, I know that AMOLED is the future and all, but at the minute it still has some disadvantages when compared to SLCD and like wise for the SLCD compared to AMOLED, and as stated in nearly every article about SLCD VS AMOLED, it really comes down to personal preference in the end.

As you have stated the blacks being black is one of your reasons for preferring AMOLED over SLCD, which is one of the main reasons as to why I would consider AMOLED, although for me personally when I think about it, the only time that I would notice the blacks and backlight is when the screen is nearly all black e.g. in kaloer night clock, but when in the system menu and the app drawer using launcher pro, the blacks look black then.

Although out of all the screens for android at the minute, the one that I would choose anyday would be SAMOLED, as the colours etc. are just jaw dropping compared to AMOLED, SLCD IMO.

And as for the desire having the better quality screen, that is what I think after seeing all the pictures, videos, reviews by users and experts and also seeing the screens in person.

I really don't get how over-excited people get about screen differences.

Yeah, they are very small differences, but for me they would be noticeable :p especially when compared to SAMOLED, the way I look at it for any screen technology I.e. tvs, monitors, is that the main thing you look at is the screen, you use it all the time, watch tv shows, films, play games, browse the net etc. Etc. So therefore personally I would want the screen to look as good as possible and to suit my needs whether that be having blacks appearing as deep blacks, sharper text, more natural looking colours or more vivid brighter colours etc.

But the screens are all very good anyway and as you said most people probably won't notice the differences when there not side by side, just me being fussy when it comes to certain things :p

I had this the other day, but it was a problem with my motherboard USB drivers. Go check those.
