***The Official Gran Turismo 5 Thread***

I don't like the invisible barrier around some tracks. Like the top gear track, if I spin off, instead of skidding into the grass I'll crash into nothing :(

+1

Not a great fan of racing on that track, especially on the later licence where you can get disqualified for going off the track or hitting anyone. Seems extremely hit and miss, sometimes you get disqualified and sometimes you don't for the very same thing!

The reason a lot of people aren't playing online is probably due to the majority playing the offline modes.

online mode also seems incomplete, not knowing how much bhp or what upgrades your opponent has makes the race somewhat of a mismatch.
hopefully they will fix this very soon and online numbers should increase.

Like all other gt games. You only knew if the car had been modified if it was dam quick.

Which NASCAR are people going for? I assume as they are all 500k and the same weight/power that it doesn't make a difference?

I know it's not an excuse but that is probably coming in a patch, I may be mistaken though I swore if you clicked on a player in the lobby it would tell you what car they had and what BHP etc?

I used the Juan Pablo Montoya one, I think it was a red Chevrolet Impala. I don't think it actually makes a difference as they're all pretty much identical in the performance sector.

This is the wrong forum thats why. head over to avf. most of us play online.

Just last night we did a 20 lap race around fuji speedway GT lasting over half an hour with a full 16 players online.

no kiddies. clean competitive race.

i posted a link and details here before btu it fell over on death ears so i wont bother anymore as many dont like playing online here

Arcade Mode. Looks like it is anytime under the quoted time unlocks it, getting exact time would be pretty impossible.

Yeah, that was only my second go at it and recovered from a spin after the long straight.

Had 2 off's on my first, a slight one on my second and done it on my third.

Trying to forget my Forza lines and get used to this.:) Can take hell of a lot more liberties with the curbs etc.

Is there a hidden AI option somewhere in this game for Gran Turismo mode? I'm bored silly in these early starter races, driving a car with half the power they have and just running rings around them as they brake on corners that you can take flat out, and crawling around corners at half the speed you can potentially take...

The last race on Daytona in the NASCAR Championship is absolutely outrageous. What are you to do when the AI are like tanks on railway tracks and you're like a prawn cracker to them!!!!???

Going over the curbs had zero effect on my car. It is very easy in that respect. But I love that the car can get a bit out of shape under braking, something which forza is lacking.

I reckon we should have race on it sometime. I think it would be pretty close.

I just got gold after about 3 hours of trying. Interestingly it was the first time I'd actually completed 10 laps.

The AI cars aren't governed by the same physics you are; they can't be spun off. If you're slipstreaming you lose downforce, so if you move into the side of another car, you spin off and it's sayonara. However they are practically on rails and will not move from the racing line even if you shunt them pretty hard.

It's almost too realistic. IRL you could move your head and check your blind spots or have a sense of surrounding thanks to your peripheral vision. In a game you don't have those luxuries, so when you shift one car width to the left to overtake and there's someone in your would-be slot, you'll be spinning off like a top. It's very frustrating.

Now, how I did it: use the first lap to get into position, 3rd or 4th behind the lead pack. Then it's just a case of holding it together until the last lap, avoiding scuffles. I catapulted up the inside and into 1st place just after crossing the line to start the 10th lap. Then I just drove defensively until the end. They were all coming at me and I had to duck left and right to block them off.

I won by 0.080 of a second. Third place was 0.100 behind.

It's disproportionately hard compared to the other races in the championship and you wont get gold on one try. Get 1st in the 4 track races and be top of the leaderboard and then sack off the last race and go at it later so you can restart if you get spun.
