Kwik-Fit have failed my car MOT for a worn (inside tread) front tyre and a brake light which was working yesterday when I tested.

I went with KF as I got a £25 MOT coupon deal with my credit card

I have Falken FK-452 all round on it. They are saying LingLong is just as good so  to them.

I can get the Falken from Blackcircles and another local garage will fit at £90 all inc (KF charging about same for LL).

Should I get just one done or both fronts? Any better tyres for similar price?

How much tread left on the other one? I'd guess it was getting pretty low as well.

I'd replace them both - no idea on alternatives though

I've checked the tread on the nearside and that is not as bad as the worn one but I don't know how much life it has got left either.

Change them as a pair or you will be forever changing one tyre at once. Its best to having matching tyres on a axle. Prefer on on entire car.

LingLong ditchfinders supurme probally are not quite a s good as falkens.

Change both.

And swap your new tyres to the rear while your at it. Especially in this weather. Less chance of the back breaking loose on you mid bend that way.

Have a search on the forums for black circles, there have been various people listing alternative tyres

I'm with you, but that is bound to open a can of worms...

I got 2 new tyres put on this morning. I put my fronts on the back & have the 2 new ones on the front. I'm keeping the motor though & want it right.

You poo-poo linglongs but would consider just changing one tyre...

Linglongs are just as bad an idea as probably very unmatched tyres. Change both at the same time.

Possibly consider an alignment.

I once had the spare (full size, full tread depth) and a worn (3mm) on the front axle. Car torque steered like mad which I attributed to the difference in OD.
Get a pair of tyres, and fix the alignment.

Definitely get the alignment checked with uneven wear like that. As everyone else has said best to change the pair.

I have a cunning plan....I'm going to swap the whole wheel for my spare which is a full tyre not a space saver.

This is good enough to pass an MOT right?

er.. no.

Well nearly

the spare wheel has to have a legal tread depth when fitted. But there is no legal requirement to have one. So yes swap them around, but then dont put the worn wheel back in the car.

Its a Dunlop SP Sport 205 55 R16, the tread and general condition is excellent.:p

No I can't use this for MOT as the size(standards are 17) has to be the same on each axle.:(

Regarding the alignment and reluctance to get new tyres , I'm brassic right now otherwise I wouldn't hesitate.:(
