I want to use my new SSD and install windows 7 on it but how can I flash it if I can not plug it in externally?

My old PC has no sata, I have no external caddy and my etbook can only house 1 sata drive.

Please help

Put the files to flash it on an empty USB drive, then boot using a Windows Vista or Win 7 32bit disk. When that boots you can choose Repair Computer to get to a command prompt to run the flash tool off the USB.

Yep, you can run the toolbox through the command prompt available on the Vista/7 repair disc (32-bit only!).

I don't really understand. Do you guys mean -

1) Install Windows 7 on SSD
2) Put flash files on USB
3) Then boot into Windows with the Repair disk???? Don't understand this bit

When you say repair disc do you mean windows 7 installation disk?
How do I get to command prompt from repair disc? any links to more info would be perfect

By the way. I have a Vertex 2 64GB.

The Flash tool from OCZ website is meant to be ran in a Windows exvironment.

Can I really boot into Windows (which is installed on the SSD) and flash the SSD which is at the same time running windows?

Final confirmation please before I install win7 on the SSD and then flash it.

Thanks

yes i did this. I have a Vertex 2 90GB.

if your flashing with 1.24 beware after flashing is done you'll get a blue screen. don't worry just power off then on and everything be ok

Yes. You might get a blue screen when it's done though, in which case turn off your PC and remove the power connector from the drive for about 15 minutes. Then start the PC again and it should be fine.

You can also do it using the Windows Vista/7 32-bit repair disc as well (without having Windows installed), tis up to you.
