If you had 25,000 to spend, would you...

to be fair there does seem to be this massive thing in society that you must

'own your own house'

or let the bank own your house to be fair.

And what for, so you can brag to people about it, so this is a right of passage and shows that your now a grown up.

personally if someone told me to become a man i needed to take out a 25yr loan for 100k and ill be paying back around 250k then id tell them to get stuffed.

I look at it aslong as i have a roof above my head and a garage for my racecar then im not bothered about anything else, of course some people need to feel that they will own something in 25yrs time but for me ill happily use that money to enjoy myself when im young, i know personally ill never own a house and ill be happy with that

I get the impression that the OP is in the same scenerio

Hold on, what is wrong here? :p we have a guy who is 31 and is about to move back in with his parents (because he claims he cannot afford to live on his own) and is about to spend 25k on a hot hatch then wait for his parents to die and live happily eer after  people have being publically desstroyed for far less in motors before, must be because its Christmas or I have missed something :p

He got off scot free, because the main motors griefers still live with their parents also :D.

Owning your own home saves money vs renting in the long run. Its a bit lobsided to spend it all on a car

Used 2009 Mitsubishi Evo 10 FQ330 - 25,000

I'd choose that of the two but S2000 to me is more sensible or mx5 even more so then upgrade it maybe

if i had 25k i would buy this:

and use the change to keep it running.

yes  convert it to lpg I would, helps make it last longer I think

I can't help but think the "Enjoy yourself now and **** the future" plan is just a little bit short sighted.

Of course it is all about balance and you can very easily be too sensible. I know someone who didn't have much of a life outside of work, drove a hand-me-down Astra, scrimped, saved and worked every spare moment of Over time he could get so he could buy his own place at 23. I guess some people out there would think he's done very well but personally I don't think he's lived his life properly. Now all he's concerned about is the lighting in his kitchen, moaning about the cats in his garden and bragging about the £30 road tax he pays of his financed £13k+ Korean dog box. That doesn't quite appeal to me :p

If you can't get the money down then fair enough, you can't afford it, but if you do find yourself able to realistically put down £25k and were still living with your parents I'd think you were bonkers to spend it on a flash car rather than using it to sort of your living arrangements.

Pulling a nice bird (partly thanks to your flash car) = Cool
Asking your parents' permission to bring her home for the night = Not cool.

I was going to go right into one of my rubbish posts then as iv had a few but now iv come over a bit tired.

If you cant see the logic in buying houses well thats just great, long live the race car of yours :)

Thats what Travel Lodge is for (short stays for getting hold of birds you cop for), but only as a stop gap, you really do need to buy houses, because in the imortal worlds of Tony Soprano, "god aint making no more land" :D

I'm an only child, my plan is to wait until my parents die and then I have a house. Might be 10-20 years though.

Property in the UK is ridiculous. I don't want some massive debt hanging over my head. It's makes me depressed just thinking about it.

That there lads, is ambition. Keep it up

AFAIK not many of the regulars still live at home, I assume you're just continuing your usual Fox obsession?

I don't think he can stop himself.

Depends if your parents accept that you are 20+ and living there or still a child.

I dread to think what my mother would do to me if I brought home an uninvited "guest". It's got nothing to do with her treating me as a child, but more out of respect.

That plus she'll probably end up changing the sheets ;).

im not saying you have to live with your parents for the rest of your life(or theirs shall we say) but you dont have to buy a house.

I rent which is significantly cheaper which means the money i save can be used for hobbies and activities that enrich my life while im still young enough to enjoy them.

I know when i turn 50 i wont be able to do the things i can do in my 20s so would rather do it all now because life isnt a rehearsal and wouldnt want to look back and wish i had enjoyed more of my youth instead of spending my wages paying off bricks and mortor.

Maybe i look at things simply, my parents arnt leaving me a penny(or property) and i wont leave my potential children a penny neither, you make your own way in life and enjoy it as much as you can, shouldnt need to be waiting for 'dead mans shoes'

Iv had too much to drink to argue, i surrender :D

R34 GTR - desperately miss mine, and if I had 25k to blow on a car I'd go back there in a heartbeat.

When did you turn French?

Come on, I haven't heard a DiamondMark moan for a while!

But they are £25k for a nearly standard car. £25k for a car that isn't all that fast, isn't that well speced and has an interior that looks like it is straight out of a 90s mini cab.

When I was 14 they were awesome but now I look at them and think that anyone who is willing to walk past 997 911s, 996 911 Turbos, Jag XJRs, AMG MERCs, M BMWs and the like and lay down £25k for one is officially mental.
