Few IT education questions

30 posts on, I'm still none the wiser =/ Aside from people who are advising against an IT career altogether the options presented are:

- self taught with a freelancer job experience that may or may not lift off the ground
- uni that, while may provide qualification, may turn out not being useful in the long term
- specialised course

So of them three - which one would you agree, to be the best choice?

Depends what you want to do - did you look into the previous suggestion of getting a job and studying?

Ignore the 'Don't waste your time getting into IT' types its a broad area and just because they have had a bad experience doesn't mean you necessarily have to.

You suggest getting entry level roles before signing up for anything but then, wouldn't I need some knowledge to be able to perform what's required of me in that role to begin with? I don't think IT is the kind of industry where 'no experience is required as training will be provided' =/

That's what an entry level role is, one where you generally will know very little and learn as you go. Think of it as a trainee role.

A lot of first rung positions are more interested in the type of person you are, skills can be taught quickly and easily to the right person.

tbh it'll be hard to take any course that would prepare you for 'enterprise/business IT'.

Thanks for clearing this out. Gonna start looking for vacancies in the new year. Hopefully something in the north west will pop up. Out of curiosity - any websites you'd suggest?

Personally I use cwjobs.co.uk to check for jobs but people all have their own favourite sites like jobserve etc :)
