About to buy a SSD - Help...

Well it never turned up....thanks DPD! The more I hear about them the worse it gets. I was thinking maybe I should have gone with Overclockers but they were £15 more expensive and then I realised they too use DPD!

Apparently DPD have a 3 day backlog. I'd have fetched it myself from the depot but it didn't even get to the Nottingham one. It's in Birmingham so I doubt I'll even get it tomorrow.

Oh well, it's not the end of the world...

I'd love to hear how you get on and the steps you take mate - I've got Sandforce SSDs arriving on Monday (I hope! :D) and also have the R2E. I'm guessing once I've got the RAID array initialised I'll be following the exact steps that you will be, and I too am a little unsure of how W7 treats SSDs!

Cheers. :)

I'll post back here once I have it up and running mate. Hope yours turn up too!

same roey, got nvidia 3d vision glasses at birmigham depot. its weird cos i finally got my monitor that was due for sat delivery but the glasses werent with it, weird. we might get em wed or thurs i suppose

I wouldnt mind if they got it to my local depot Nottingham so I could go and fetch it myself to save me waiting all week. I hate having to make my wife wait in for it because I get so much stick from her and rightly so. That's why I pay extra to have it come on a Saturday.....or not.

Still got nothing. Tried phoning the Nottingham depot all day. Nothing at all. Managed to phone the Birmingham depot and the lady said it's being sent to Nottingham tonight, lol yeah right!

It's finally arrived! Woooooo! Wish me luck.

Doesn't say 2e on the box though, just 2. Is that right?

trying to secure erase it and all im getting is a message that says

drive security interface is frozen

please power cycle the drive and restart the ocz toolbox

help?

Got Intel RST drivers installed? If not, install them before trying to do anything in the OCZ Toolbox. If that still doesn't work, most people find the problem is fixed by disconnecting the drive's SATA and/or power cable after Windows has loaded before plugging it back in again and then running the Toolbox.

i havent installed the rst yet as i thought i had to do that after i have put w7 on the ssd. ok ill try that now.

you sure you can plug power into it when the system is on? that dont sound great but i read someone else did it too.

thanks again

installed the rst and then had to reboot. now i have a message in the task bar saying rst service is not running.

knew id have problems doing this.

Any ideas anyone?

Well most people don't have issues with flashing the firmware using the Toolbox so obviously you wouldn't need RST until you have your new Windows installation running. Apparently some drivers or chipsets cause the security lock problems, hence the suggestion to try new drivers. Are you currently in IDE mode? If so, the drivers won't work.

Maybe it'll be easier to switch to AHCI and update the firmware either through a Windows 7 (32-bit) boot CD or maybe just after you've got your new install of Windows up and running. The only issue with flashing an SSD being used as your boot drive is that you'll probably get a BSOD when it's done but a reboot fixes that.

Still getting same message. RST in the window sees both hard drives so I don't know why I cant secure erase it. the firmware is already 1.24 and i clicked update and it downloads a bit then says download complete.
aaahhhhhh

Done it. Unplugged the power sata cable to it then back in and it allowed me to secure erase it. took 2 seconds is that right?

rst says I have 114gb free, is that right?

1.24/1.25 is the latest firmware (they're the same) so you're fine there. Secure Erase taking 2 seconds is correct so it looks like you're ready to go.

Once you've installed Windows the drive size will be 111 GiB (shown as "114473 MB" in Intel RST).

All back up and running Dragon. Everything you said is spot on. Last thing, in my notifications on the taskbar it says my RST service is not running. Should it be running? It wont let me hide it.

ATTO - Read was 278 write was 273
