*** The Official HTC Desire (Bravo) Thread! ***

Oxygen is plenty fast as it is especially if you're S-OFF with N1Tab; or Data++ so no real need to use the new data2ext yet TBH and risk data loss until it's more complete.

The other thing is whether, beyond benchmarks, will this actually translate to a real world performance improvement or just a benchmark one?

As Khaaan! says, the custom roms are often quite fast anyway, even Leedroid is decent and that's still Sense based. Most of the things that seem slow to me are held back by the CPU (video decoding) rather than the file system/storage...well as far as I can tell, so it makes me wonder how much of an improvement this would really offer. Apps generally load quickly anyway!

Previous DATA2EXT etc mods were just inflating Quadrant benchmarks, ownhere says this new version isn't just that but improves OS performance all round because it's designed just make better use of the Flash Memory blocks and they way they can be better written to because you can't simply overwrite memory blocks on flash memory, they have to be erased first (hence the faster read speeds than write).

I think these mods will be out the window as soon as we see more efficient CPUs and GPUs come out. The LG Star uses a dual core chip and the latest videos of it running benchmarks are very impressive!

I think I came within a hair's breadth of bricking my Desire on Friday night (tell me if I didn't!).

I was in the middle of using UnrEVOked, when it hit a wall as I hadn't installed the HBOOT drivers. I was a bit confused as to what I needed to do, and then realised what was wrong. I forgot that I hadn't closed unrEVOked at this point, and the phone was still connected via USB. Basically, I installed the HBOOT drivers and as soon as they'd installed, the rooting commenced without warning. I wondered why my Desire had rebooted itself, so I disconnected it and realised very quickly that UnrEVOked was still running, and was forcing the phone to reboot. I don't think a plug has been re-plugged in so fast as when I realised what I'd done. Thankfully the phone was rebooting so it didn't get stopped mid-root, and was okay. :o

Anyone flashed Oxygen v1.0.3 yet? New market included along with plenty of tweaks to the browser and reverting to the standard gallery app vs Gallery 3D.

just about to try oxygen for the first time, finding the hd roms a little laggy, just need to see if i can live with dialer one, failing that it will be back to leedroid

way i did it this time was full wipe, partition the sd card in recovery, removed the sd card place in card reader copy rom across put sd card back in phone boot to recovery and flash, if your just wiping you can do it the way you have stated

What do you remove the card and put it into a card reader for?

Just enable USB-MS mode in recovery (it's in AmonRA, not sure if it's in Clockwork) and it will mount your SDCard whilst in recovery, so it appears as a removable drive in Windows.

Then just copy ROM over and then disable USB-MS mode again.

Probably as ive never seen that option lol, but thanks for the tip will save a bit of bother in the future :D

I had super force close errors and power cycling when I upgraded OTA to 1.0.3. But, a clean flash / wipe and reinstall and this ROM seems the best one yet.

Yeah and as usual, everything running fine!

Same here, upgraded last night and all is well.

Robbie - how do I flash bravo_alphaspl-n1table.img? I've downloaded the file from the AlphaRev site but where do I enter the 'fastboot flash hboot bravo_alphaspl-n1table.img' command?

Instructions are severely lacking on their website.

Cheers.

You need to have ADB (Android SDK) set up on your PC. Turn on phone via BACK+POWER then enter the command once USB connected in ADB.

In other news, I have forgotten my Handcent pattern unlock code!!!!

Cheers, thought that was the case.

I've got the SDK installed already. When my phone is booted up I get the device listed when I enter adb devices. However, when I go into fastboot my phone is not listed, although it does appear OK in Device Manager on my PC.

Anyway, won't let me run the command. Might have to try on another PC tonight to see if that sorts it.

The device won't be listed with adb devices because the phone is in fastboot mode and will only respond to "fastboot <command>" commands!

OK, something weird going on then as I get 'fastboot' is not a recognised command error. I had problems with the Android SDK on this machine before (Win7 x64) when I rooted the phone originally. Going to try it on an XP machine and see if that helps.
