Flu, how many of you have actually had it?

I don't think I have, unless I was very young. I've just had bad colds, which it sounds like the OP has too.

If you had flu you wouldn't be able to post on a forum.

Of course I would, just about though....there are obviously different degrees of flu and I'd say I've got a moderate case of it. Just tried to eat a soup and couldn't have more than 2 mouthfuls...ah well, back to bed, going to watch an episode of Sopranos then sleep until the football comes on tonight.

I just don't think 'feel lethargic' in any way describes what flu has done to people I've known.

Yea I dunno about that man, were you hospitalised?

Anything above 104 and I would be on my way to the hospital pretty sharpish.

Had a callout.. the Doctor just did the usual of prescribing anti-biotics and was on his way. Thermo' could have been inaccurate I guess, but I was damned hot. The wet flannel I (read: my mum) placed on my forehead would be steaming and completely dry within a few minutes.

I had it once so bad (it could be something else or worse) that my mum had to pick me up and carry me to the hospital to get seen, and all I drank was water and threw up clear liquid (the water).

I didn't go to school for 2 weeks.

its a total myth that ''if you had flu you wouldnt be able to do *********''

people have even been known to get the virus and not even realise it.

Every symptom you get is your body reacting to the virus. You don't get high temperature just for carrying the virus, the high temperature is your body's reaction to carrying the virus (to kill it off).

The sore throat/nose is where your T-cells have "attacked" those cells in your body that are infected.

It's certainly possible for someone to "have" the flu for days without symptom.

I've never had flu myself. But then I've had the vaccine since I was 9 because of type I diabetes. Had a few really bad other infections, had a chest infection which layed me up in bed for a week. A load of urinary infections that have hospitalised me, thou more to do with ketone acidosis as a side effect.

If it was 'flu he certainly shouldn't have given you antibiotics! If you had a dangerous fever like that, then he should have been giving you analgesics to bring it down.

Chances are you had something else pretty nasty that the body thought it could kill off by running a high fever.

When I was about 10, one christmas. That's it as far as I know. Only time I've ever not carried on as normal when I've had a cold/flu...

I don't get everyone that has a cold and are somehow incapacitated.

I didn't take the anti-biotics. :)

i was sick a few times once when i had a bad cold and was in bed for at least 2 days and then eventually got out of bed which is the worst part after feeling so ill. overall i was rough for about 5 days

still dont though if it was just a bad cold or flu?

I managed to pick up 'Freshers Flu' in my final year of Uni. We'd travelled to a friends in Leeds from Lincoln for her birthday night out. I felt awful when I woke up in the morning of the night out. Spent most of it just crashed out but wanted to go out to keep my friends happy.

I was freezing! Made it to the first bar where it was tiny and had a massive PA system the music was far too loud. Come the time to leave I couldn't stop shivvering and my teeth were chattering like crazy. I got a cab home and crashed out fully cothed, dressing gown, hood up, duvet up and over my head too and was still freezing. Come 3am after failing o get to sleep I go downstairs to the bathroom to get some more water. I'm stood leaning over the sink looking at myself in the mirror with beads of sweat dripping off my nose.

Next think I wake up lying on the floor with my arms above my head half slumped over their toiletries basket staring up at the sink. Shoved my head under the shower for 20 minutes and crawled back to bed. Worst I've been. Good job I went home as opposed to getting myself intoxicated and then passing out in the middle of a club.

Not sure which I prefer, that or the Noro Virus. At least Flu isn't quite so messy!

I was really bad 2 weeks ago and came on really fast! I was perfectly fine at work with just a little sore throat in the morning and by lunch I couldn't stop shivering have plenty of hot/cold flushes. Spent the rest of the week lying in bed feeling real rough with a large amount of hallucinations (not knowing where I was a 100% and crazy sleep patterns).

Worst thing I find about the Flu is the aching, my body usually aches so bad all over when I have the flu, so uncomfortable for a week! Well had my illness for the year :D
