I've still enjoyed it, but there's nothing in this that has made me think it's better than Forza 3.
I agree with this, except I think GT5 looks marginally better with the premium models.
I'd probably go with 3.5/5

I have Forza which I assume is the next best. I can't explain why, GT just feels better.
Technically though I would argue GT is possibly also better, perhaps less tuning options but more tracks, cars, events and just nice to play imho.
don't take it as gospel. Just my oppinion, I haven't played both exessively yet.
I've yet to be in a "race". In pretty much every event I've led into the first corner and strolled away with it. Probably the only event this happened in was the Indy Like the Wind race, which was by 3-4 seconds.
your car must be pretty overpowered no? if u cut back on the bhp, make sure you dont have more bhp than everyone else and dont have less weight, then im sure you will find it harder?
No actually, that's generally using cars around the same kind of performance level as the rest of the field. The AI is just slow.
And to my other point, has anyone got "proper" damage yet and when did you get it?
If we're talking real full on cosmetic damage then.... No. GT5 does not offer this.
The only game that comes close is the Burnout Series. Burnout made its first showing on the PS2 many years ago.
Its a shame that today's "Sim" racers cant display similar levels of cosmetic damage!
I'm confused. There were several gameplay videos before release that showed cars (I can specifically think of the premium Impreza rally car) with doors etc. coming off on impact - is this in the final game or not? There was also much talk that you had to reach a certain level before this was all available.
Not sure about your Burnout reference either, ever played Grid?

Even more confusing when the back of the game box states vehicle damage
FM3 had very good cosmetic and mechanical damage, so I guess Dair has not played that either
The AI is rubbish, take the endurance races for example the AI is made up of 2 fast cars, 5 medium cars and 4 slow ones, so for the player to find a competitive car its just pointless.

Well FM3 has that? bits fall of the cars, dents etc etc
So what damage is in GT5 as stated on the back of the game?
Forza simulates damage, both cosmetic and mechanical very well, but let's stick to the topic and ask where GT5's is, as it states on the back of the box...
Yes let's not be silly in defending GT5....F1 the front wing falls off and maybe a wheel, that's it? have you played it? indestructible rear wings and chassis...How can FM not show good cosmetic damage? they can't rip wheels off as that is not cosmetic, they can dent the car, scrape the car and make parts fall off, that is cosmetic damage, so how does it not do it?
