Well I guess it was going to happen sooner or later, had my license since I was 17 and I'm now 40 and never had a ticket, got stopped this morning for 34 in a 30 limit so 3 points and £60 fine :(

Just noticed though that the ticket doesn't have my registration number on it, is it still a valid ticket?

To be honest I'm probably just gonna take it like a man and take the points and fine, just a bit annoyed with myself to be honest ;) The Copper was a solid bloke though, said he hated give out tickets and told the story how he got stopped for speeding recently ;)

HEADRAT

If he hated giving out speed tickets so much he would have given you a warning, 34 in a 30 zone, makes me laugh.

The Speed Awareness Courses are at the discretion of the authorities aren't they? Maybe he deemed that any excess speed was unacceptable on that road, or whatever. Who knows. I know how you feel, I got stopped and ticketed for doing 68 in a 50.. Can't really argue with that, but it does make you feel like a bit of a criminal... I guess that's what we are if we break the law :D ;)

The cop sounds like he was taking the mick, "oh yea I recently got caught for speeding" yea, sure you did.

34 in a 30, I would expect a telling off but not a ticket, sound's like he was having a bad day to me.

34 in a 30? - You could put that down to an under reading speedo FFS!

Sheesh! he was having a bad day....

No number? Hmm, I'd be inclined to see if it can be dodged!

No, I did say that I'd never had a ticket etc. but he didn't seem to want to budge on giving me a ticket.

Im afraid what you had there was a jobs worth, probably dosent have sex often.

Is there not a rule of +3mph & 10% to take into account the inaccurate speedo that could be fitted to cars !

So that puts the 43mph well within the safety zone !

I wish the Police would concentrate on knicking idiot drivers in the rush hour driving !

I think you mean 34 not 43......

From when I did a speed awareness course you get given 10% leeway for equipment error, but the +2mph is up to the local council/district as to whether they allow it or not. I got done doing 45 in a 40, if Berkshire had the +2mph rule I would have been fine :(.

So that puts the 83mph well within the safety zone !

It is only a guideline not a rule.;)

Seems quite petty. IMO 35+ is where the tickets should start to roll in, obviously though it is always dependant on the road and circumstances.

That seems a little ridiculous to me too and I like the little BS story he fed you too to make you feel a whole lot better about getting a ticket. As others have said total jobsworth. It's 100% down to them whether they give you a ticket or not so saying that he hates giving out tickets is a load of tosh. Coppers like that really irritate me....

As for there being no registration details on your ticket I'd get myself over to Pepipoo or whatever the site is and find out. Logically thinking no registration details means they have no idea who has been caught speeding other than a 'blue ford focus' as an example. There are hundreds of those on the road so going by your ticket there is no clear way to identify your vehicle as the one that was speeding.

Out of interest was the copper that did you actually in a traffic police car? It wasnt just your normal type plod on his own in a panda pop car was it?

ACPO guidelines advise police not to issue tickets till 35mph in a 30.

He's been incredibly harsh and knows it. Hence his little story to ease his conscience. Doubt its real.

Sadly however, the ACPO guidelines are just that ... advice.
