I'm back baby!
2000 2.0 vw beetle with 59k on the clock. From a dealer with associated warranty.

I'm after something for our lass. It might as well be for xmas, i need to buy it anyway!

[edit]christ, opera is gay!

I've been surprised to see a few of these about for 2 grand but if from a Dealer I s'pose it could be up to 3k with Warranty.

It is worth a riduculous amount of money - I'd expect to pay at least £3k for this car.

Think really carefully because they really are crap for the money - as you know its a Golf in a suit so you are basically paying over £3k for a 10 year old 2.0 Golf. And the 2.0 is a properly bad engine - it drinks like a fish yet offers zero power to compensate for that. Drinks oil, as well, IIRC.

I agree with Fox but Fox has forgotten none of that matters to a woman, they want one so they want one, Regardless.
Get her one of the nice cream ones with a rag top she'll look lovely in it.

2000 V plate or W plate ?
What Trim Level ?
Manual or Auto

I guessed, V plate, S trim, Manual and trade in is between 1.5 - 2k.

So add on a nice dealers margin and it's going to be 3k + for the retail price.

S trim is Cabrio only. Come off it MrLOL we all know that like everyone else you just used the Glass's thing on the Vauxhall website so there is no need to tell us trade in is between 1.5 and 2k when you can get an exact figure.

btw, the real tradein value is £2240 once you've got the trim level right, assuming it's on a W plate :p

The 1.6 would be a more sensible choice than the 2.0 i'd have thought, if you're not bothered about out and out performance, it's only down about 10bhp on the bigger engine. If performance does bother you, then there is the 1.8T to look at.

Could not agree more with the above comment, the flower on the dash will be the key selling point, worth at least £1.5k!!

Not a better alternative?

I told my lady that her family would never find her body if she came home in one of these.

Im struggling to convince her. She wants an old megane coupe or an old beetle. This was the closest i could think of.

As surmised above im afraid logic has not much place in this scenario :(

Not sure of the trim level i was planning on having a butchers tomorrow, it would be under 3k but not by too much.

What about a Ford Puma Thunder, you'd get a mint one for £2000ish and a little more for a low miler. 3k would probably get you a 02 reg one of the last ones.
They're old but much much better than a Megane Coupe ! and they're fun. ;)

what is it with you lately ??

You have a proper ****ing bee in your bonnet with me lately. Mikehiow disappears so you find the need to pick on somebody else ?

Where else would I want to be quoting glasses trade in prices from ?

Seriously, you're acting like a ****. Stop it.

Get yourself on an influencing and persuasion course offered by a corporate training company.

Or just drink 6 pints of Stella then get on with it.

Both effective in different ways!

I could be persuasive if I could find a car around here that I thought would suit.

In fairness a Golf is a decent car, even if it's a MkIV with a stupid shell on it. She won't have a Focus, and she actually wants us to keep my Clio for her to drive despite not having passed her test yet (172 Cup), which I won't let her do.

Cars she wants:

Old shape Tigra (no way)
VW camper van (no way)
Old Beetle (no way)
Celica (not ST205 age, too expensive for her to drive as her first car, she will damage it several times)
Old Renault Megane (had enough of French cars for a long while)

So you can see why I'm trying to find something else. She wants something 'cute and girly'. Sigh.

Puma isn't a bad shout if I can find a good one.
