The Ashes 2010-11: Australia v England ** spoilers **

Strauss is good

I agree tbh, I really rate Strauss, he's the rock at the top of the order and the real class act.

Captaining is also much easier from in the commentary box, ok sometimes he may be a bit conservative, but he's still done wonders for the England cricket team.

Best-case scenario we declare on 580odd-3odd and win by an innings again - given the amount of hair-pulling and criticism of the Aussie side at 'fortress' Adelaide from the media I think it happening again at Perth would be more than enough to send them over the edge :p

There was a great bit on TMS on the fifth day of the first test, when it was clearly starting to head for a draw, where Michael Vaughan started lambasting Strauss for not declaring sooner, and really having the balls to try and win the test. Aggers had the temerity to say something like "But you would have done the exact same thing when you were captain", and Vaughan got in a right strop about it.

Everyone's Captain Hindsight when they commentate.

Lol awesomeness :D Masochistic maybe but I'm loving the contest, unfortunately for us the good Johnson has decided to come to this Test and the conditions suit perfectly, or rather the pitch is doing very little but he's moving it wonderfully in the air.

England aren't batting especially badly, perhaps Trott aside with an ugly shot choice, the Aussies are really bowling very well.

Bell century heard it here first - man of the moment

England all out for 187.

If we can get 200 I'll be ok, lol

Game on! Never a dull day and all :D

Johnson bowled brilliantly, top class bowling and showed why he was voted ICC Cricketer of the Year - when on song he's unplayable - it just happens that when he isn't he's bloody useless :p

I think we are really missing Broad, Finn is trying hard but he hasn't got the consistency and experience to really get under the skin of the Aussie batsmen and he was doing an excellent job with Swann of cleaning up the tail.

One thing i can never understand about Mitch is :
How does he get it swinging so well in Aussie conditions - and somehow fail 100% of the time in more swing-friendly countries like England for example?

Agree with the Broad thing :( really under-rated with the ball.

Really wish Freddy didnt have such useless legs lol, we miss a player like him as well - very badly.
Or even a truely world-class paceman would be great. Currently, whilst being a better team overall, we have 0 match winners with the ball which puts a lot of pressure on our batsmen to perform.
Swanny is obviously world-class but spinners are just overall less effective for 'destroying' teams due to being largely less effective untill late Day 3, Day 4 or Day 5 etc.

/rant :p

Gotta be a psychological thing much like Harmison I reckon, I think the guy misses his mum or something :p

As a sidenote, it's been very generous of Australia to pick a walking wicket to open with - Hughes out cheaply again :)

In another debate - Finn or Onions (Pre-injury, obviously) ?
Cant say i rate Finn, at all :(
He's like a 60% of Broad with the ball in terms of style, but cant bat either!

To be fair after today you owe us more than one, but I guess that's why you have Clarke and Smith in the side

*edit* Make that Ponting too, ta :D

:)

I think it's a bit harsh to criticise Finn too much to be honest, he's only 21 playing in a massive series and yet has got some crucial wickets, it's just he hasn't quite developed the killer instinct and the control to really keep the runs down to complement the wicket-taking balls.
