How come Android is totally crap compared to iOS?

This is my first smartphone and had it an hour and am already thinking of sending this phone back.

The keyboard touch is pants compared to the iphone my mate has, it keeys selecting the wrong characters, I cant even get on the market store... just says it's loading the ToS and never does...

Totally and utterly deflated with it.
 
So send it back - if you don't like it then that's down to you. I myself swear by Android and wouldn't touch an iPhone with a 10 foot barge pole. It's pretty simple, if you hate it take it back and get an iPhone.

I find iOS to be an operating system that is too restrictive and treats me like an Apple controlled muppet that can't make my own decisions about how it looks and feels... if that's what you like then no-one here is going to stop you.

What phone?

There is a vast range of less capable android phones, so maybe that's the problem? You just need a Googlemail account set up to get on the Android market, shouldn't be more to it than that.

Since i put android 2.2 on my HD2 the device has been transformed, so easy to use and share pictures, browser is great, menu navigation easy to use. I find texting on android far better than my iphone, the predictive is spot on and makes it a joy to use.

I think the problem is either you or your handset - because I've not had any of those problems on Android.

I thought the defy was meant to be a great handset? Spec wise it certainly looks it then theres the bonus of it being everyday proof basically.

If the phone has a screen protector on it, then it might be worth you taking it off and trying the keyboard again.

I has the same issue on my Pulse. As soon as the protector was removed it felt 10 times better.

Its a cheap phone, can't really compare it to an iphone, try a Desire HD and i'm pretty sure you'll be blown away by the speed, quality of screen and ease of use.
 
There's no issue with the Defy hardware in its ability as an Android device AFAIK. The main problem is with the 'Motorolaness' of the UI from what I've read, but then it's not meant to be all that bad anyway. Give it a day and see how you get on with it IMO. You should have managed to get a good feel of the device by then to know whether it's for you, or whether you want to go for an iPhone or a better specced Android device.

And it really should have pinch zoom. I bet he's still got the factory screen protector on. :D

AHAHAHA TRUMPETS....

after much googling it turns out the market doesnt like my googlemail.com bit, changed to gmail.com and gained access.

Downloaded launcher pro which seems to have removed the motoblur crap from the home screen.

Downloaded Opera browser which has pinch-to-zoom

Downloaded Mercury for msn

I'm flying!

Will have a play tommorrow and calm down, seems I will need to ask a load more questions hehe.
