Dell messed up

KEEP IT. Silence isnt' dishonesty ;) Dell make millions daily, they won't miss 1 laptop and it surely won't destroy any lives.

Happened to me earlier this year with a £200 graphics card (GTX 460 when it was released) :D sold the spare, easy cash.

lol lol lol :D :D :D

Dell did the same to me , i had Dell inspiron 9400 which the graphics card went funny up , this said they would replace with Dell Inspiron 1720 + cpu upgrade free of charge . I got the Dell inspiron 9400 back up & running , i phoned Dell and they said they would collect it from my home address , they never did BONUS :p :p :p

Dont say anything :p keep hush hush you would be mad to say anything , only say something if they charge you for it

Did the same thing to me about 4 years ago, I notified them several times via e-mail and on the phone, they never collected or attempted to contact me.

However it was a guilt free bonus present for dad the following year.

What's a Mexican boxer got to do with anything? :p

What i see it as is would dell really miss one laptop? if they dont know they messed up ah well their fualt just keep quiet about it OR ring them and keep the phone but but dont actually talk to any one after 6month sell it.If they ever chase you for it you say you rang them but they never came to collect

Dell (or any big systems integrator) tends to operate on pretty tight margins, that's not to say they don't have a huge income because of the volumes they produce but the profit per computer is often pretty small. So it's a case of yes and no - Dell can afford to lose a certain amount of computers through breakages/theft/errors/other dishonesty etc and they'd be stupid not to build something into their forecasts to take account of this but that doesn't make not giving them a chance to rectify their error right either - I guess it depends whether it would bother you or not, there are few moral absolutes.

Personally I'd contact them and let them know of their error, they should arrange collection at their expense and at a time convenient to you, you've just got to take reasonable care of their product such as it is. If they don't do so within a prescribed timescale then it's legally yours anyway.

Dilemma

This is a quite simple dilemma.

Are you a thief? If so keep it. If not then call them up and tell them.

There is absolutely no chance they will then charge you for the second one and fob you off when trying to return it.

They have made a mistake, but i dont think 'make them pay for it' is really what a decent person should be doing.

TBH they could spare it. Oh noes our multi-billion dollar company lost a single laptop!! We should get it back or we'll be broke!

Although... karma!

I'm going to email them in the morning.

Good man. I'm actually surprised at the number of people who would keep quiet and then flog it because they consider Dell to be able to absorb the loss. Well, of course they can but that isn't really the point, is it? It's about whether you would be morally comfortable holding on to something fairly expensive which you have no intention of paying for and hoping no one notices.

Someone earlier mentioned theft and whilst that isn't quite the right term, it's not far off.

I'm not joking at all. I wouldn't even bat an eyelid. If a large company such as Dell makes a mistake it's there problem in my eyes. If they rang me I would be honest. Seeing as they almost certainly wouldn't, I would definitely keep it.

+1, They most probably wont even notice their mistake, I'd be happy with a free i5 laptop ;)

I guess that's why your name has milk in it. Milking the opportunity to get something for nothing.;)
