The Ashes 2010-11: Australia v England ** spoilers **

:-/ Running away a bit, Hopefully Watson will complete his sterling run of 50+ without a century and we can winkle Hussey out somehow :p

At stumps Australia are 119 for 3 (33 overs) a lead of 200:

Watson not out 61
Hughes c Collingwood b Finn 12
Ponting c Prior b Finn 1
Clarke b Tremlett 20
Hussey not out 24
Extras 1

How is cricket viewed in the States Rich ? Is it a popular sport there ?
No-one has the foggiest idea what I'm talking about bar if you happen to bump into an ex-pat :p

That said I've struck up a decent relationship with the (english) proprietor of one of the pubs here that shows all the English footy through streams and he agreed to let me find a decent cricket stream so I can sit on my own and watch the cricket with pint in hand :p

Oops, bit of a stumble with our openers, but we're still 200 ahead. Fingers crossed for a good day tomorrow! I hope Tremlett eats a bad curry tonight. :p

How about Mitchell Johnson, eh? He had the ball swinging harder than Rich_L's mum in the 1960s!

Wow what a ripping performance by Johnson....about time he showed up 6 wickets he took...shame hes so damn inconsistent though.

Geez i thought England had this game in the bag but guess i was wrong...Aussies are showing some fight which is good to see. Im guessing it down to Hussey and Watson to save the Aussies skins as Ponting and Clarke yet again fail when it counts the most.

Still think England could win this depending on how quickly they get the Aussie out tommorrow then depends on how the Aussies bowl in the 2nd innings....Johnson will have be on his very best ie take 5+wickets if Aussies want to win this test.

LOL Evangelion:p

I don't think it could be said that England ever had it 'in the bag', after having Australia at 6-58(?) and then letting them get to 268.

England may or may not have batted particularly badly, Johnson was simply inspired - and don't forget it's his home ground so he's used to the rather unique pitch. I think he'll have a good second innings too.

Johnson was always going to perform at the WACA. I didn't think we'd get anything there, but only one of the next two needs to be picked up to retain the ashes :)

^^ True. Australia is still very much on the back foot, and we have no assurance that Johnson's current form is here to stay.

Well... sort of. He's been playing for Western Australia since mid-2008, but was born in Townsville and spent 8 years playing for Queensland (2001-08). More accurate to say that the WACA is his adopted ground. He certainly has experience there, though probably not much more than others in the Ashes squad.

Well at least we got those inital wickets. 119-0 would have been saying goodbye to the test terrirtory.

That said, it does put Hussey in. Can't he just go away somewhere?

This is a pleasure to watch. Hussey & Smith are slapping Anderson around the pitch like a couple of chavs at a Croydon bus stop. Nine lives each, both of them!

:)

If Hussey stays alive, I reckon we can nurdle our way to a 400 run lead. Then I just hope Johnson still remembers how to swing...

:p

*edit*

Ah, there goes Hussey. I had hoped for a little more nurdling, but it was not to be. A lead of 390 is respectable, yet still quite achievable for England. On with the show!

^^ And the all important nurdle.

*edit*

Nice stats for Hussey!

Hussey's latest masterclass made him the first batsman to make six consecutive fifty-plus scores in an Ashes series, a run dating back to his futile hundred at The Oval in 2009. He also became the leading run-scorer in the series, overtaking Alastair Cook, and made this the most prolific series of his career.

:)
