hey just a shout out to everyone who hasn't updated there drivers yet.

you may want to take this under consideration when you choose to or not.

i updated to 10.12, the over drive is buggy as when you oc, the min oc value is the actual oc value, may not matter.

when i overclocked my saphire HD 5870, games crashed my pc with solid vertical lines. this occured even when overdrive had default clocks but different fan speed!

so i set out to get back to 10.10. this i found was almost virtually impossible!

short from, swapping cards with a hd 4870 and 5870 (it failed to install even on the 4870 :@), using drive sweeper and installing the software over 20 times and going a-wall in regedit, i succeeded. a lot of unnessary stress for almost 0 improvement and a peak at the UI, just isn't worth it. best part was that i could install 10.12 again but not 10.10! Confused!

Sgt Tackleberry... it's widely known that installing over old ATi drivers is the way to do it these days, or so I'm led to believe by many of the 'Wise' members here.

It true apparently, uninstalling the drivers can cause problems. They are designed to work to be installed over each other.

I always install straight over the last one's, no problems! 10.12 works fine for me! I've noticed, and maybe not strictly true but as the newer drivers come out they can get a bit more buggy with older gen cards!

you cant simply roleback to older driver you need to remove each and every registry + driver + ccc suit before going back to 10.10 regarding oc issue i have faced somewhat same issue

on 10.12 i crashed with 820/1150 while lowering clock down to 806/1150 helped me

Its working fine on my 2900xt, which is the oldest card they support! :)

interesting... first I'v heard of that, I'v always un-installed old-> restart->install new->restart and no problems, AMD's site still instructs/recommends to uninstall old drivers first. who to believe!? O_O

OMG you guys serious?

Never have the drivers been intended by design to be installed over the top of drivers! And you wonder why you run in to issues?

As for overclocking issues, well thats why I stay away from overclcocking my gpu.

the new 10.12 drivers are pretty good for the 5970 ive found that it doesnt down clock as much in powerplay and stays at the desired setting under load.....slightly better in vantage scores also...i always had problems writing over old drivers and like to do a fresh install or driver sweep the old ones of first.. it works better this way imo

i've always installed over the top. never had a problem.

Installing over the top can cause problems but it usually doesn't. When it does, the easiest way is to remove the entire package, check if the leftover driver in Win 7 (assuming that's the one you're using) is the latest stable version (because uninstalling CCC will force Win 7 to use the previous working one) and install the entire package again. You can always uninstall the driver manually from under Display panel and then let Windows set it up from scratch after a reboot.

I still don't get how the thread's title relates to OP's problem but that's probably cause I'm drunk :/

well for what it's worth i did install the drivers the old fashioned way via uninstall, reboot install new drivers. the issues were the drivers worked fine on stock when overdrive wasn't enabled at all! but then my pc could only work 10.12 after that.

many times before i've gone back to previous drivers without any problems. i just feel the drivers aren't robust enough to use.

i tried every trick in the book but nothing prevailed. my last try which worked was using a Hd 4870, installed 10.10 and un-installed windows drivers, this caused ati display driver installation to fail to install but CCC was installed then reboot installed ati display drivers and it worked, then switched cards. i had already done each of the steps as shown above seperately but it always failed :S (if not clear i did try to install ati drivers without any windows display drivers installed and failed)

the problem was that when 10.10 was installed, it said: the drivers were in-compactable with the hardware

just played a good hour of just cause 2 with overdrive and no vertical lines , which occured on this game on 10.12.
