UK government proposes to block all Internet porn as standard

Won't someone think of the children!?!

I didn't have the internet when I was growing up, and I managed to find porn just fine. If not the internet, then it'll regress back to DVDs. Or BRs... :D

The Government should regulate internet service providers (ISPs) to stop children unwittingly finding pornography online, an MP said.

Conservative Claire Perry (Devizes) said children were finding it increasingly easy to access violent and shocking content on their home computers, while there was little adequate protection available to parents.

But culture minister Ed Vaizey, said the Government was in favour of a lightly-regulated internet. Those who posted illegal material would be prosecuted but ministers wanted to work with ISPs on any changes.
Claire Perry is a nobody.

I wish there were less thick people here (like the OP) who a gullible, post drivel, and seem to accept it. I mean come on - news.com.au ffs

And what kind of habits are these? Blocking children from having sexual thoughts? From going out and having sex with people under 16? Access to porn makes no difference to these whatsoever.

The physical and mental abuse of women (and men for that matter), some porn is disgusting and the internet makes it all to easy to find it.

I wouldn't stop adults indulging in whatever turns them on but children may not have the maturity to understand what they are seeing.

In fact a lot of adults don't, making them phone up and say 'porn please' may actually be a very good gauge of mental age. The posts in this very thread 'ooh but my gf would know I browse porn huh huh' say it all.

And to think it was only a little while ago that our nation was criticising China for controlling what its people could view on the internet. Oh the hypocrisy.

Try Google Image search with safesearch set to off. Are they going to block Google too?

To all of you, this has been talked about for years and never achieved. No free country will allow such limitation of the Internet.

I don't think he was saying his gf didn't know, just that he used her connection. What is "mental abuse of women"?

hahahaha "hey guys I found it in the Daily Mail too, of course it is true"

Most people on this forum have now evolved beyond the loldailymail mindset. Shame you haven't.

Seeing as it's featured on The Sunday Times front page I think it's safe to assume it's legit.

1) One backbench MP suggests it
2) Culture Secretary disagrees

No story.

Internet providers should create an "opt-in" system to prevent children gaining access to pornography, a Conservative MP has said.

If you actually read The Sunday Times article, it explains things more properly despite the misrepresentative headline (also lol for seeing a headline and using it as 'proof')

For those saying it can't be done i actually found the one in dubai to be largely effective at blocking porn, at the expense of blocking nearly everything educational wise regarding the keywords "sex", "genitals" etc.

You could still access footage but it was pretty hard to get it.

Can you imagine though, it gets put into place and kids are forced to get clued up on far more technical ways of accessing it. So much so that parents couldn't possibly hope to solve the issue as they'd most likely never be able to find out it's happening.

What I want to know is what this "profound and negative effect on our children" is when they stumble upon internet porn? ONOEZ HE SAW A VIDEO OF TWO PEOPLE NOBBING! HE'LL BE SCARRED FOR LIFE! What the fudge?

I'd argue that obsessively preventing kids from seeing stuff screws them up far more than videos/pictures of naked ladies.

Personally I'd rather the net was wide open by default and people opted in for services they want blocked, anyone with kids would happily go to the trouble of opting in to have it blocked along with malware sites, web proxies etc. I know I would if the option was there once my daughter is at an age where the internet is interesting to her.

Will this be as bad as Vodafone blocking basically everything funny on mobile internet? I cant even go on urban dictionary and dead baby jokes :(

I know you can unblock it but when I ever I try to it gives me an error so I have just given up.

Why not give better sex education in schools in the first place? I would bet money on most children's sex education consisting of a video and a 5 minute talk from an embarrassed teacher.

This is indeed very worrying. Not because of the lack of porn. But because of the breach on personal freedom and the doors which would then be open for the future.
