Yes, that may have a part to play in it.

I suppose I refer to the Ideal Muslim State. Muslims who follow the Quran shouldn't have a problem living in a sharia state, however most Muslim leaders seem to lack basic understanding of Quranic prinicples and run a 'country'. Given the choice between an Islamic ruler who takes away your rights and a western ruler who gives you those rights, most people would prefer the latter.

To be fair, "only" 52 people have been killed (according to him.. not got time to go rummaging about to verify) because our security services have done a damned good job of rumbling the nutters. I don't think there was any malicious intent or premeditation in the car accidents, rail accidents and in the cases of heart disease.

I can't say that I believe that if we were as laid back in airport security as he is in his post, that there wouldn't have been a nasty headline-making incident by now. Even if "only" 200 people died in an terrorist aircraft explosion, that has far more impact on the public than a rail crash IMO, simply because there was a deliberate intent behind it. If the terrorists are Muslim, well, you can imagine the pitchfork brigade seizing the opportunity, can't you?

Don't group platinum with this bunch, he may be humourous but he means well.

The "These people are not real muslims" line gets a bit tiring after a while. They certainly believe they are, many other muslims believe they are. Whilst certainly not representative of muslims in general you do yourself no favours and will never really stop the problem if your deny they have anything at all to do with Islam.

It amuses me that people decided they despise hatemongers or terrorists and that some of these figures are muslims, thus the word muslim becomes associated with the former words.

Shouldn't we focussing on getting rid of terrorists and hatemongers... not Muslims?

Unfortunately such a state has never existed and is not really likely to either. Not to mention even an ideal muslim state would not be something I would like to wish to live in. Far too many things I personally disagree with.

Given the choice between an Islamic ruler who takes away your rights and a western ruler who gives you those rights, most people would prefer the latter.

Sadly as a religion it seems to be far too easy to abuse and to allow some pretty horrific stuff to go on. Not to mention it would probably depend on which interpretation of Sharia is being used to form the state. I am pretty sure that quite a few would have problems living in a state where lopping hands off is an allowable punishment.
