UK government proposes to block all Internet porn as standard

I have no problem with the principle, but lots of problems with the practice. Given the Government's typical half-hearted approach to most things, all it would do is give ill-informed parents a false sense of security and give the rest of us cause to 'opt-in' just to see the sites they'd blocked in error. Wikipedia block 2.0, anyone?

Thing is, it's not really the internet porn that is 'damaging' but arguably the sex that is dealt up with every other piece of media. Popular music seems, by definition, to be about sex and that sort of stuff is fed to children and young people on a daily basis, not to mention television and movies. There's an increasing sexualisation of children in fashion too. I've seen numerous children walking around in short skirts, low cut tops, heavy makeup and 'fashionable' clothing.

Obviously completely blanketing out all bit of sex is ludicrous, but if people really want to make a positive change, at least go after the right source(s).

completely agree, you ask a teenage girl about porn and they cringe, ask them about a rapper that pretty much puts sex on a pedestal and they go on forever. Kids get sexually curious from puberty. That's just life. The guys will look at porn, the girls I doubt it.

On vodafone they block adult sites by default for web access I found.

I couldn't get onto sites like Sickipedia, etc for grabbing jokes as this was classed as adult too.

It simply involved logging into my vodafone account and choosing the option "yes" to enabling adult sites and removing the default lock. So long as the option is there to disable it and it is easy enough to do so I don't really see it as a problem.

Kids can then just revert back to stealing their parents Littlewoods catalog for the underwear section. Unless they remove that too

T-Mobile make you provide credit card details (not debit card), would be fine if I had a credit card and if the restricted sites were just adult content, unfortunately that (as usual) is not the case...

I feel compelled to make a joke about sticking fingers in dikes...

Please dont, I'm revising those rubbishy things right now and they're annoying! (probably not the type of dyke you're thinking of though. :p)

Girl look at just as much porn as guys, and from just as young an age. Difference is they don't talk about it as much! :p

Bet there are a load more, they just won't admit it.

It's a bit like the joke that girls don't poo. Blokes talk about it all the time but there's very few girls that do ...:D

Violence on TV, violence in the street. Violence everywhere and they do nothing about that and target porn?! Where am I going to get my hardcore bondage stuff now!

Ohhhhh back to the olden days of visiting a guy in an alleyway with a trenchcoat full of doovds I suppose!

If they are going to censor this type of site then why not other sites that affect people e.g. radicalisation sites etc which start people down a slippery slope as well...

True, and I share your concern - however, the censorship has already begun. Remember when the Scorpion's wiki page was blacklisted?

ATTENTION!

Just Google'd that and it's a picture of a young naked girl...:o :(

Not saying it should be banned necessarily but you shouldn't bring up something like that without some sort of warning.

Thanks for the heads up... I was seconds away from googling that page to see what he meant (naive curiosity) as I don't know who or what Scorpion's page is or was....

it's an album cover.

Calling it child porn is like calling the advert (or was it the tomorrows world intro? ) that had the naked babies swimming Cp.
