Car park ding, owner hesitant to pursue

What I don't understand is why they don't punish people who lie.

My Mum had some moron drive into her in the road because he was too busy looking at some women on the pavement. He said she reversed into him! It was only because a witness stepped in that he had to pay out.

Yet that was all that happened. Why not screw the ****er with a heavy fine?

Its a good point actually

should we be charging people who attempt to lie to insurance companies with fraud or something ?

Don't think fraud would work, as you're not receiving anything, just attempting to avoid being held responsible, ?

Is a "school car park" not classed as private property and as such of no interest to the Police and not covered by car insurance anyhow

I do agree that the woman sounds thoroughly inconsiderate and irresponsible and deserves her comeuppance.

Report it to the cops and get a crime number, then report it to the insurance company. Her insurance (assuming she has some) will pay the lot, plus any hire car whilst the owners is being repaired.

People like that make me sick

A guy at work gone done a couple of years ago for leaving the scene of an accident in a school car park. He tried claiming private property but as others have said as long as the public have access then it is covered under the RTA.

Can't remember what penalty he got but it was points and a big fine.

what a ****, surely even on private property you could get done, would just be different charges, criminal damage maybe?

I just think it's wrong that if you're hit while parked, your insurance will go up. It's just ridiculous. If something happens and it's not your fault, why should you be penalised for it? I actually hate the whole insurance situation in this country, I don't know how they get away with it to be honest.
It's all about statistics, there will be a corellation between having your car hit even while parked and having a fault accident, even if it's a very weak one. It will be skewed by the people who had it because they'd parked in a rubbish place, i.e. bad drivers -> more likely to have a fault accident
Same as those who had non-fault accidents where really they were somewhat to blame, they're the ones that affect the statistics.

Ahh, like people who park in the turning area of a cul-de-sac, rather than their driveway, and then act all surprised when someone doing a 3 point turn reverses into them?

I can see the logic, still annoying when you have a totally blameless accident though.

It's a shame they can't send out assessors to the scene to rate the non-fault party's "nob factor" as a percentage and that percentage is then applied to next year's premium loadings.
